You probably will want a shedding blade, which is a curved blade used to remove excess hair. applying moderate pressure, brush over your dog. It is completely safe, and feels good to the dog!

Gosh what an interesting cross. Can we have a piccie please?;)
You will need a good quality bristle grooming brush, also a small toothed comb for getting knots out behind the ears. BTW is he very long haired?:)

Sure I'll get a picture up as soon as I take one.:) Yes he has long fur. It's about four inches in the longest places.

He is beautiful!!
Also on bathing, it is best to wait 6-8 weeks between bathes, and you dont need to do it then unless he really needs it.
PetSmart usually has good deals with getting them bathed and their claws clipped and stuff, if you dont want to do it yourself. I am very scared to clip the nails myself. You need a claw-trimmer though if you want to. But if he runs around a lot then he nails should probably be worn down where they dont need trimming too much.
Also does he have his dew claws still? If so you need to make sure these are trimmed fairly often.

I wouldnt use the shredder blade until hes is actually dropping his coat, other wise ,you will rip all his undercoat out. Bathing , well i only bath mine when thet are actually dropping their coats, so 1 -2 bathes a year. It does depend on the dog. If he rolls in foxes poo , well he'll want more baths than most dogs:rolleyes:

No, we brought him in to have them removed last month.

We never saw his parents. The person we got him from had gotten two of them from the origonal owners but could'nt handle them because she was gone all day at work. We actually got him for free!:)

Hi
I have a cross collie sheltie, shes a lovely friendly dog and very well behaved.
One problem, I bought her from a dog shelter when she was 12 weeks and she has come with an on going problem that even the vets can not cure.
She seems to have an allergy to house hold dust etc.
she will scratch her bum an eyes and the side of her all the time. the vets give her sterolds but they make her fat and i dont really like them to often and they dont work after she gets used to them.
Is there any cure out there? she can make her self bleed and in side her eyes gets very inflamed.
Now this time of the year, her hair is a big problem malting how can we stop this or slow it right down?
Thanks in advance

Poor thing - the only advice I could give is to damp dust every day - get rid of all carpets and unnecessary soft furnishings. Make sure his bedding is thoroughly cleaned every day.
Evening Primrose Oil (Gamenolonic Acid) is sometimes helpful for canine skin problems. You can give dogs antihistamines too - your vet can advise the best ones to use. The only problems with antihistamines is that the first generation ones - atarax etc., can sedate a little. But then I expect its a small price to pay to relieve an allergy.
I hope this helps a little.
