Hi,
My name is Carol and I have a 2 year old yorkie. The problem is everytime someone is leaving our house she goes nuts barking, jumping and nipping at the people and we do not know how to stop this. If someone has any suggestions for how to help this I would sure appreciate it.
Thank You
Carol:)

call your local humaine society or animal control. If they cannot take care of their dog and if it is lose and can get in your yard and be aggressive to you, they should not own a dog. It should be taken away. I cannot recommend how to get their dog to stop. only THEY can train their dog not to.

Why does she have a dog? If she cant train the dog, Im sorry but then she needs to get one already trained. They do specialy training for dogs with handicapped owners and that would be best. A non-trained dog cannot be a very good dog for someone in a wheelchair.

my mums dog was not trained atall and he is a very hyper brittany spaniel and she is totally reliyant on a wheelchair and she trained the dog and she is totally in control of the dog so untrained dogs can be sutible for wheelchair users and i think that with a few dog training lessons she should be able to get the dog under control. contact your local trainer or trainer school and see if they can help.
hope this helps

This whole thread went out of orbit. No one has even answered or tried to help the original poster with the acception of Kelsie.

I am sorry I can't help Carol I have never had that type of problem. I will defer to some of the other people on here that are much more experienced now that hopefully this thread is back on track. :D

It did go a bit sidewards didn't it

For the immediate future I would suggest that you remove your Yorkie out of the room before your friends even try and get up to leave. It must be quite distressing for all of you, give yourselves a break if you need to!

Moving on from that, have the lead ready for him/her (what's the name?) when he starts barking, lead on, remove from room. Bring back in, barks again, remove from room. And continue in the same vein. It might be useful if you have a good friend that can help you set all this up. After all, visitors only leave once! He will soon get the message that it's not acceptable behaviour and give up. You could also reinforce this by saying quiet boy and treating when he's behaving.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

I asked if she had taught her dog stay....she never answered. I think teaching it to stay would help a lot.

Hi
Yes I have trained my dog to sit but when she is going nuts she is not interested in listening to me its like she is mad when you leave her.
I will certainly try the leaving the room with the leash and let you know how that works.
Thanks
Carol

Hi Carol, just a couple of things to try first get a small plastic pop bottle put a few little bits of gravel or small pebbles in it when your friends get up to go and the dog starts going mad bang the bottle on the floor quite hard this should get her attension and tell her very firmly sit, stay. Do this with the bottle evry time she starts . Only other thing is to put her lead on and when your friends are leaving and she starts tell her sit if she does'nt do it take her out of the room wait a few minutes untill she calms down and bring her back in. Repeat this over and over untill she gets fed up and quitens down , do it every time you have friends round untill she gets the message. Hope this helps. Good Luck, Nancy

If you're going to do that, remember to praise profusely when the dog responds, or else the dog is not going to understand what it is supposed to do. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned praise on this thread so far. Praise gets you everywhere.

Thanks for pointing that out ofcourse I should have said that when she is good and stops jumping and nipping give her lots of cuddles and a treat helps now and again.
