Yes a lot of people do think he's a poodle - not many people have heard of Bichons although they are quite a popular breed over here at the moment:)

Yes he is a lovely little lad although for the past 18 months or so he hasn't had a happy life because he was constantly scratching. We were told he had allergies when he was 17 weeks old. We have been backward and forwards to the vets and he has had numerous steroids and antibiotics but his scratching got worse. I even had him castrated because someone told me it might help. A few weeks ago we took him back to the vets and he said it looked like he faced a life of steroids or seeing a skin specialist or a last resort was being put to sleep. We tried the steroids for two weeks but he still scratched his ears and made them bleed badly.

I was nearly in tears at the vets and asked him if there wasn't anything else we could try. He decided to have him in for an ear skin scrape and kept him there overnight. They phoned next day and said they had found nothing on the scrape which to be honest I wasn't expecting them to. They sent a blood test away to the labs to test for Sarcoptes. Two weeks later it came back positive - he had sarcoptic mange and had had it since he was a young puppy:( He gave us three doses of Stronghold to be used on the back of his neck every two weeks for the next 6 weeks - he has his 3rd dose on Wednesday. He is sooo much better now and a much happier little dog than he was and I am over the moon that his scratching days are at an end.:) :)
