i would say ideally brushing weekly, esp around ears and feathers to prevent matting, trimming ears and feet, whenever they get long! monthly, every 2 months every 6 months, not longer, i would think. those ears need to be kept clean and dry inside or you are courting ear infections, so lots of hair in the ear canal itself is a no-no. you can easily learn to groom him yourself, ask the breeder or your local groomer for some advice.

My advice is to groom daily, and do ears and pads monthly. It will become a routine for the puppy, and he won't mind it when he needs to have thorough grooming. We always start our dogs off right from 8 wks. They don't need the brushing daily, it just gets them used to it. :) It also helps to handle the paws and check nails as that lets the dog get accustomed to having his feet handled--some dogs really don't like that, and it's good for them to learn to be calm for the vet visits.

we just brush everyday as a part of our bonding time... we have a major grooming session with a bath and brushing every 1 1/2 - 2 weeks

I groom Jake every day - his fur attracts grass seeds etc., and they can be a nuiscance if not groomed out.

- and we like it!

i would say groom ur god out evry few days with a soft slicker brush and then comb out the feathering with a comb, i would say bath and trm feathing about evry 6 weeks depending on where u live and the weather.

if u brush ur dog regulay it will help kep him cleaner as it brushes out the dry dirt which is handy with a small breed :)

I spend about a hour in the evening in front of the tv and Max sits on my lap. He gets combed/brushed during that time. Like 'Jake 2006' said it is a bonding time. About once a week I put him on the table and do a complete job. I got him in Sept and he didn't tolerate grooming very well at all, and had to be held to have his feet trimmed and nails cut. He went for his first groomer session since I've had him and did really well.

Daily is a good method of grooming for a while anyhow. It does put a nice coat on a pet and keeps the nats and snags from forming. Trim about the ears, do not prob into them, just around, eyes be so careful and just keep him brushed nicely to look good. He will love u for it too.

I have to agree with LesterJ, everyday grooming, is much more than just grooming. I have a cocker spaniel, a Pomeranian/sheltie mix, and a very large cat. I love to give them treats, but I stick to NILIF, so daily brushing gives me an excuse to give them cookies. It also is part of daily bonding and helps to reinforce the pack hierarchy. We have a terrible problem with ticks this year, not enough cold weather, so I have to check them daily. Start now, and grooming will become something he looks forward to, it will make you're life MUCH easier also. It's something I look forward to at the end of the day.
