I have an 8 week old yellow lab. For potty trips I take her to the backyard, on a leash, even though it is fenced. For playtime my kids & I let her run in the backyard loose and she has stayed very close to us. We have a wooded area/forest at the back of the property. I have been potty training her just before the tree line. We have not allowed her to go into the forest, because of underbrush, mud, mosquitos, assorted critters etc... Even though she has never been in the forest, she has now become obsessed with it. Both potty trips & playtime now involve her trying to go exploring where she should not be exploring. It is becoming a fight. She is barking, whinning & struggling like mad on the leash.
My older dogs were allowed in the forest & she will be too, when she is older. It's just not the place for a puppy.
I don't want to walk her in the front yard, as she has not had all her shots & there is a good deal of dog activity out front.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get her to stop this? She does not know any commands yet.
