Greyhounds make great pets.

We have three ex-racing greyhounds from Tia Greyhound Rescue near Halifax http://www.tiagreyhounds.org.uk/ .
We alos have a 6 month old greyhound pup that we also got from Tia after an abandoned bitch gave birth.

They sleep a lot, they're great with kids, need a moderate amount of exercise and as long as its not a cat or squirrel they like other animals.

So many greyhounds are abandoned or maimed (or worse) that there will be a greyhound rescue centre near you filled with great prospective pets - why not go and take a look.30

They are so cute! Yeah, I think greyhounds are good pets. My neighbor had one for about ten years, his name was Snappy, and he was really a great dog. He was retired from racing. :)

They are lovely :)

It's nice that you can tell others just what they are like - the general image of them is so untrue.

I adore greyhounds. I've been to many pet expos and other events where they would have retired greyhounds for adoption. Everytime I see one I wanna bring it home. lol

I like greyhounds too but was wondering the other day what a pup looks like? I know it sounds crazy, but because of people adopting retired race dogs you dont see any pups around. I totally support this of course, but has anyone actually seen a pup? And can I see a pic please? I bet they are adorable! :D

Hi Toby well done to you and your family for taking on these wonderful dogs. I like all sighthounds and feel that greyhounds are very much maligned and it is such a shame I do all I can to make people aware of what wonderful pets they make as you say great with kids, will walk for miles, but equally happy to be a couch potato. I have promised myself that one day I will have one, but with five other dogs at present the time is not right. As we know with all sighhounds they will chase small furry things but so long as the owners are aware of this and responsible dog owners, they can prevent any serious confrontations.

i love greyhounds! (jusr beacuse they are sighthounds) but i am learning more about them, i didn't know they funny colors like that though, maybe i'm just used to saluki colors. i would like to adopt a greyhound, we need another lazy dog around the house lol. just kidding. but yeah, greyhounds...good dogs.

I love greyhounds, They are so gentle and friendly. Many ex racers can be quite reserved though from having little contact because they are used more as a tool as opposed to a pet. I think they are great though. Lurchers along with greyhounds are massively in need of homes in Newcastle, UK. Our local shelter is about 20-30% constantly filled with greyhounds and lurchers, I suppose because by the time they are finished racing they are quite old and not many people adopt old dogs :( So do a good deed, Adopt a greyhound/lurcher!

p.s I would have had a gorgeous bitch greyhound but my mam thinks two dogs are enough =/

I Would Like To Adopt A Recuse Greyhound, That Is Where I'm Getting My Saluki From. A Rescue Called Stola, Saluki Tree Of Life Alliance. Hopefully When I Get Around To Getting One They Will Have One That Is Right For Me. I Am An Official Voulnteer For Them, I Sell Lemonade And The Money Goes To Them.

I adore Greys. They have very consistent personalities, You never hear about them attacking people or other dogs. I have seen a femal Grey give my dog Zircon 'what-for' when he was trying to be a pervert. One polite snarl and he behaved like a gentleman afterward.
And they are so soft, too!
