Hola all. I was just wondering what a shiba is supposed to look like. http://www.dogforum.org/showthread.php?t=2306
the one in that picture is one that i often see, but for some reason my cousin has a shiba inu as well, and shes very thin, skinny, and taller then the one in this picture, but swears it is pure breed. I have also seen other ones that are a bit taller and skinny a the walking park i go to. So my question is, What is a true shiba supposed to look like, or do they come in 2 different shapes and sizes.
Thank you
Miyuki

compared to the one i posted before, she is thin, as well as her coat is thin and short, unlike the one above which has a full thicker coat. are they both pure breed?

Hard to say. shes much bigger than the ones ive seen also longer in the body. Try and take a front on piccie. I know its hard to get her to stand still. She may have dropped her coat which could explain the lack of thickness.

I would say the US ones may be a tad bigger than over here. as i say hard to tell. Know what you mean about not standing still LOL

I am a little late with this, but from your pics, the one in the first is a decent shiba. Has nice eyes, and is fairly cobby. The one in the second pic is not a well bred shiba. Being that she is cream I would wonder about her breeder, it is not an accepted color so breeders breeding them should be avoided. In the last 12 years that i have owned them I ahve watched the breeding slide downhill, fast, BYB and puppymills pump them out, heck they are cute pups. But people dont realise that they are very aloof, and dont take well to being packed around and cuddled they are happier in a different room than you, thus many end up dumped.

Friend of mine has one... swears it's part cat. Aloof to the point of snobbery, clean to the point of fastidiousness, and a picky eater.
Great dog though! Amazing sent work on that little fellah!
