I feel defeated, my friend and I came home to find my basement flooding on Friday night. My hubby is away till May and of course all this happened when he is gone.

We rushed downstairs to remove anything off the floor we could, the water was rising and we caught it before it got to the other end of the basement. We unplugged what we could and I cried when we were done.

I had the emergency restoration crew come out and mop up the water and they were here till 4 am , and back at 730 am. ( I only got maybe 3 hours sleep )

On Sat they came and ripped out the carpet and the septic guy pumped out our tank ( we live in the country ) He also found the problem...... the filter in our ejector pump that pumps out the septic tank was plugged and was NOT pumping so all the water that is coming into out weeping tile from the spring run off backed up into the tank and into the house via the sewer in the basement. Yuck.

He clenaed the filter and repleced and the water went down. He was so kind he had to come back that day adn he did it no charge to fix the ssptic system a second time, he said " you have enough to deal with here so no charge " That renews my faith in mankind. :)

They are coming back today to tear out drywall; all the stuff that got wet has to go. I took todoy off work to be here. I am still just beside myself but we actually didn't loose that much stuff, we lost the carpet, a few pieces of old and inexpensive furnture and some books. Nothing major.

But still, I would not wish this on anyone. I am lucky to have exceelnt neighbours, friends and family who all rallied around me on Saturday, with out them helping me and comforting me I would have been more of a wreck then I already was. Thanks to all of them !!!

Thanks, it has been tough. Not having my husband here to help me has been worse. Thanks for your thoughts .

I am so sorry you had this happen to you but sounds like you took the bull by the horns and got it taken care of.
Please make sure that before drywall is put back up that you check for mold!!
If you have insulation that was behind the damaged drywall and it got wet REPLACE IT TOO. Mold is a silent killer that will lead to all kinds of health problems.
Things will get better :)

Yep us too at a previous house. Now in this house I go in the crawl space and check every spring for plumbing leaks pipe sweat and mold that may follow.

Mould scares me too!!! :(

They sprayed all the area with some kind of disinfectant that kills mould and mildew. They have big fans going down there right now to dry it all out.
