Dog walker?

What is a reasonable amount to pay someone to come walk Hemi once during the day? He is able to be outside a lot now since the weather is still nice, but once it starts to get cold he will have to be inside all day. My stepdaughters' friend in the neighborhood, who is eleven, has a King Charles Spaniel and I was thinking of asking her if she could walk Hemi after school. I have no idea though what is a reasonable amount to offer her. Any suggestions? TIA!

Depends where you are from - in the UK we have a 'minimum wage' law. don't know how this applies to eleven year olds. I would pay say £2.50 a day - but then I do live in a city and everywhere you go there are adverts for staff - more jobs than people.

It will be interesting to know what the other members think.

Yep, depends where you live. Was going to suggest that you try looking for people that offer these services & see what the going rate is, but you're talking about an 11 year old child here so the going rate probably wouldn't be appropriate.

I suppose you know & trust this girl? I wouldn't let a child walk my dogs but that's because they're on the large side, they don't get much interaction with children (though Dennis loves little kiddie winks) & I don't think a child would be able to control them in he/she needed to.

I do know this girl. She plays with my stepdaughters all the time. I think she is pretty mature for her age, plus she has her own dog and has been through training with her. Hemi is only 5 1/2 pounds.. so I don't worry that she can't control him. ;)
I do often see her in the morning, I am usually leaving to take Hemi for a walk and she is just coming back from walking her dog Cinnamon.

Hmm Well I do pet walking myself, and i charge 10 a walk. Depending on where the person lives. And that is for a 30 min walk. 20 for a hr, and 5 for each additional 30 min

My daughters petsit and walk, and they charge $10 per visit/walk.

i would have said £5 a visit. there's lady round here who wanted £40 to take 4 shelties out together

If it was in the UK I would never let an 11 year old walk a dog even a small dog as they could meet someone on their walk with a dog who was dog aggressive and if this dog got out of control in my opinion an 11 year old would not be mature enough to cope. I am not saying that it would the 11 year old walking the dog would be at fault but only that if such a situation arose they are too young to cope but that is only IMO. In the USA perhaps thinks are different , I really wouldn't know.

That's fine then it is just that on another forum I am on their has been an incident where a young boy was walking a dog and a lot of people are posting that you should not let a youngster walk for the reason I gave but if you are certain that there is never going to be any strange dogs around then that should be fine. :cheers:

Ive just enquired about dog walkers in our area, just to socialise Max as they walk in groups of 3 - 4 dogs and it will help get him used to being around other dogs. They charge £9.50 an hour! I think Im going around the neighborhood and ask people if I can borrow their dogs to walk with Max instead. That's way too expensive, no way I can afford that...

Wow, that does seem expensive. Hemi doesn't even need to be walked for an hour.. I'm thinking more like 10-15 minutes.

think the minimum time is half an hour although most wouldnt do it for less than an hour.

the company that I use,ask for $10 per dog,per walk.
Hope that help.I wouldn't use a child because I'd nervous with my male that is so strong.He could bolt if he saw a cat or a squirrel.

as a dog walker my self, i charge 15 $canadian a walk, for a hour. that aside, a 15 min to 1/2 hour walk by a child, i would offer her $5 and see what she says!
