It was my fourth try - and yes I hadn't heard of some of the breeds I chose.
There's no wonder that the police/animal enforcement have problems identifying a pit bull.

Exactly. And we like to think we know something about dogs. Now consider how difficult it must be if you are unfamiliar with dogs, both human and dog are moving quickly, and it may well also be dark. This is why these "statistics" are unreliable. If a victim or witness claims a dog is a "pit bull" no one checks up and revises the report.

:cheers:I did get it on the first try.....very hard choices.....mostly i had a hunch. There are many pit bulls in our area shelters and most mixed breeds are a cross with the pits....shame a nice breed of dog gets a bad rap because of the bad people who only want it for bad reasons....they really are a good family dog if raised by a responsible person as goes with any breed I guess...

i got it on the first try, but then again i spend alot of time looking at breeds online, and different photos.
4th - after I thought - okay, which dog looks most like my neighbour's sweet girl. That was the one. I might have figured it out sooner if I'd thought about her sooner.
Lots of beautiful dogs there.
#23 looks a lot like my Yao Ming - but of course, there is a lot of similarity among various breeds and mixes can fool you.

Where I live at in miami-dade county, there is a ban on pitbulls and it really makes me sad. I don't think any breed should be banned, but tougher laws should be put into place for irresponsible owners. My brother has 2 pitbulls and both of them absolutely love me. The oldest of his two dogs, protects his son like you wouldn't believe! And my nephew is going on 2. These dogs just like any other breeds, should be supervised and when outside should either be surrounded by high fences or thick metal should be used, not rope.

3rd go for me - and I've handled quite a few when I worked at boarding kennels:o Got bitten by one too! (fear response on her part, stupidity on mine!)
Hmmm. I can see why they are so easily mis-identified. They're not very common where I live...

Don't feel bad if you couldn't find the Pit Bull. Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant, architect of the ban on Pit Bulls thre, couldn't correctly identify the pit bull off of the paper print-out of one of those online quizzes either. http://images6.theimagehosting.com/ban.121.th.gif (http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.php?img=ban.121.gif)
Some TV reporter caught it on videotape. http://images6.theimagehosting.com/microwave.th.gif (http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.php?img=microwave.gif)
It would have been funny were it not so tragic.

yup...just last year a dog attack involving a dalmation/whippet mix of some sort was identified as a pit bull...how typical *rolls eyes*

I took this test a while ago and it took me two tries. But I cut myself some slack because I chose the AmStaff first and AmStaffs can be registered as American Pit bull terriers by the United Kennel Club, so they actually are "pit bulls."
Even though most breed identification for purposes of enforcing breed specific laws is not done based on tiny, poor quality photographs that don't show size, I agree that breed misidentification can be a huge problem in breed bans. But I don't really think it is more unfair to the responsible owner of the dalmatian/whippet mix to have his dog seized and killed for no reason than it is to the responsible owner of the dog who clearly IS a pit bull. Neither dog should be seized and killed. But if a breed specific law requiring all pit bulls to be microchipped and spayed/neutered (unless they were show dogs) were in place, all the dalmatian/whippet owner would have to do would be to spay/neuter and microchip his dog (and he should be doing those things anyway) and the misidentification problem becomes a complete non-problem. Even if he can't prove his dog isn't a pit bull mix, the dog is completely legal.

I have seen all those sites. My guy Mac, is aq pitbull and people are so shocked to her it. they truly beleive that a "PITBULL" is the crop eared snarling giant-headed dogs depicted in rap videos. A pitbull looks very different from a Staffie (Staffordshire Terrier). I am proud to help dispell the stigma attached to these wonderful dogs and let people know that YES my well behaved, loving, sweet, friendly, family dog (I have 2 kids - 1 is under 3 years old), is an absolute gem and a PITBULL!
thanks for letting me vent.:)
Nope, I didn't get it right first time either - I think the site makes a good point.
I always ask people at my puppy class now what their dogs breed is as I have put my foot in it too many times by guessing incorrectly, or assuming a cross when it turns out to be some rare breed!

I failed miserably. I ended up guessing just to get it over with. Some are obvious but a few that I thought were right were breeds I never even heard of before.
I thought the Patterdale Terrier (17) was cute. I love the picture of the Alapaha blue blood bulldog (3) - looks like he's ready to play football or something.
How is a microchip going to address the issue of incorrectly identifying the breed? If you make a mistake in identifying the breed it doesn't matter if you write "pitbull" or "yorkshire terrier" on the label ... it's still wrongly identified.
Even if he can't prove his dog isn't a pit bull mix, the dog is completely legal.
If your point that all dogs should be spayed/neutered (except show dogs) and tagged then I totally agree. Seems like you took a long road to make that point. Plus it's not really related to any breed but more of common sense or good practice thing.

wow this is really an interesting little test! I got it on my 4th try i think, i could name alot of those breads on there but couldn't figure out for a min exactly which one was a pit bull.
