I am in the process of obtaining a Bullmastiff puppy as a family pet. I have done quite a bit of research over the past 8 months, but would love to hear someone's real life experience. What is your experience with the temperament with children and other pets? How much do they really drool?
Any other insight, comments, etc would be greatly appreciated. :) Feel free to email me through my profile {email address removed by skunkstripe}

Congrats on your up-coming pup:p I've not had one myself, but can tell you they need lots of socialization from an early age. I had a Bull Mastiff/Rottie mix pup in one of my puppy classes, she was 12 weeks old which is an ideal age to get your new baby into a puppy class & socialize!
Remember to take LOTS of photos, he won't be little for very long*BG*

i have a bullmastiff. keira is 9 months old now and yes you do need to socialize them at a young age. they are very loyal and very gentle and very comicle.they can drool alot especially when food is around, my keira has bootlaces and thats fine as long as she doesn't shake her head lol.

I have a nearly 2 year old Bullmastiff named Dozer. He is GREAT with our 2 year old daughter, but not so good with other dogs. We made the mistake of not socialising him from a very young age, instead we waited until around 5 months old which has really hindered his interaction. I have found they are VERY protective and terrotorial, and i would make sure that if this is the case with your one that you keep him out the back, where he cant bark and scare people as complaints may come in about the dog ( like ours did ). over all they are wonderful dogs, gentle, loving and playful. need LOTS of exercise, a nice walk everyday but doesnt take much to wear them out, they are really quite lazy!! They get HUGE very fast, ours is now almost 80kg!!

I own a 2 1/2 year old bullmastiff named Dixie. Every since she was a few months old i brought her to the dog park on a regular basis, and she was always around people. Now she weighs in at 135 lbs and she is all solid stgrength. She is very very stubborn and knows exactly what you want from her but will do it when she is ready. When she does need discipline all it takes is a change of your voice and her head drops and tail is tucked and she is in the corner. But they are very smart and they use there sad puppy dog eyes and eyebrows to just melt you , warning!!! dont give in if you do once they will remember. With kids they are awesome i have a 1 yr old nephew and sh is nothing but gentle with him. A she does is lie down next to him on the floor and watch him play and when its time for him to eat she is right there next to him licking his hands clean. But she has never been aggressive towards him at all. With other dogs she is very friendly but not very active. She would rather wrestle then run and chase each other. She has had other dogs get very aggressive with her but she never backed down but has never attacked she alwasy stands her ground and lets the other dog back down. I did have to pull her off of a small mixxed breed that was continuisly barking and nipping at her. She had enough of it and just held the dog down on the ground with her body.. Handeling You have to be strong or they have to be extremley obedient. My Girlfriend is 105 lbs and cant walk her and she has been knocked down a few times. In all this is a very smart strong determind and stubborn breed. God luck and have fun.
