I was wondering if any one has had success or failure with invisable fences. I want to buy one because I dont want to fence my yard off. I own an 8 mo. old german shorthair pointer, he does great when someone is watching him and correcting him. But sometimes i would like to let him out and not have to give him my full attention. Any help would be great thanks.

Some people have success, but it seems that just as many people have had it not work for them. Some dogs will just run on through it and ignore the shock. Then there's also the problems with batteries dying etc.

I prefer a real fence to the invisible fence... there are also fences such as this: http://www.bestfriendfence.com/

People seem to like it because it's almost invisible, but it's there.

Well, I don't really like invisible fences because as Cheetah said, some dogs will just run right through it!!! But for some people and dogs, it works. If it works for you, then it's great! :)

I happen to think they are great. We have one, nearly every other house in my neighborhood has one with every breed you can imagine and there are no roaming dogs around here.

Mine learned in just a few days. The first couple of days, she was a bit afraid, but now she's enjoying her new freedom and has not been shocked but once or twice in the beginning. We got Dogwatch and this particular brand sends a beep before it shocks, so the dog can avoid the shock. I think they all do that, actually.

My dog, who was a real bolter, sits calmly on the driveway watching joggers, dogwalkers, kids, etc. pass by as if she couldn't care less. I never dreamed I'd ever see that.

one thing i dont like about invisible fences is that other dogs CAN come into your yard. this poses a potential health risk to your dog if the intruding dog is carrying diseases or starts a fight with your dog.

This is true. If you have a lot of roaming dogs in your neighborhood, than a regular fence would be better. I am always out with my dog or at least watching from a window.
