They are generally considered to be very lazy. My two rough coats are mega lazy and always have been - they enjoy their daily walks, but other than that they prefer to lounge around tripping you up, only moving for food! My smooth is a real livewire though and is always bouncing around and up to mischief, but yep they are generally a lazy breed :)

Here are a couple photos of Silken Windhounds. I'm hoping to have a pup Winter '06! I've been researching the breed for the past 2 years:p

The silver brindle is a female named Kyra. She is my favorite female Silken Windhound out of the 50 or so I've met.

The white dog is a male named Ronan. He's one of my favorite male SWs.

Silken Windhounds are sighthounds, similar to Borzoi. However, SWs are only 18"-24" at the shoulder.

Can you tell me what kind of dog was on the show "Frasier"?

Moose (played Eddie) is a wirehaired Parson Russell Terrier. Until recently the breed was known as the Jack Russell Terrier, but Jack Russells are now specifically the type with dwarf legs (like a Dachshund). Parson Russells are the type recognized by the AKC, they have normal length legs. Either type can be wirehaired or smooth coated.

I've not heard of these..what's the difference between your dogs and Saluki's?

Salukis are a natural breed, it has been proven the breed has existed since before Biblical times (3,000 B.C.). Salukis can still be found in the deserts of the Middle East where they originated. They're also known as Persian Greyhounds.

Silken Windhounds are a human-developed breed created through selective breeding. Silken Windhounds have existed for only 22 years. Sighthound breeds in the Silken Windhounds' lineage are the Borzoi; the Whippet; and the Longhaired Whippet. Other than both breeds being sighthounds, canines and descendents of wolves, Salukis & Silken Windhounds aren't really related.

Salukis are larger dogs at 22"-28" at the shoulder. Weight of approximately 45-70 pounds. In general Salukis are taller and heavier dogs. Salukis have smooth fur on the body with or without longer fur on their pendulous ears, tail and backs of legs.

Silken Windhounds are smaller, lighter dogs. 18"-25" at the shoulder, and average weight of 30-45 pounds. Silken Windhounds have wavy to curly medium-length fur all over their body except for their head, face, ears and fronts of the legs where the fur is short and smooth. Silken Windhounds have what is termed a "rose ear", the same type of small ear that the Borzoi & Greyhound have.

There is also a huge difference in personality between the 2 breeds. Salukis tend to be more aloof & reserved, most are not interested in obedience training. Silken Windhounds tend to be more out-going & gregarious, and are quite receptive to training. There are 7 Silken Windhounds already trained and working as service/assistance dogs. There are also several Silken Windhounds competing in agility, flyball, and serving as therapy dogs.

Hope that helps! I love both breeds:p

SOME PEOPLE ARGUE THAT AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIERS ARE NOT PITBULLS. THAT AMERICAN PITBULL TERRIERS ARE THE TRUE PITBULLS, STAFFORDSHIRE'S ARE SIMILAR, BUT NOT THE SAME. SOME SAY THE ONLY DIFFERENCES IS IN THE BLOODLINES.

Keeshond are a wonderful all around great breed. I have owned two of them. My male was stunning and my female average. They would not breed. My female would breed with anyone other than her mate.

I have looking into them myself lately in the U.S. and found that they are hard to get. At least quality Keeshonds. I have seen several on internet that are not the correct color.

CamzKees
10-11-2006, 10:13 PM
Thanks for your compliments. Yeah, pet quality keeshonden are hard to find here. Orchid (hopefully) has show potential.

Truthfully, I like it that way. Back yard breeding has destroyed so many great breeds. I think it's great that they're rare.

Even though I think they are great dogs, I try to talk everyone out of getting them, just for that reason. I tell people how hard they are to groom, how much they bark, how much socialization they require, how much energy they have, and hope that the person goes away thinking, "Maybe I should adopt a pet from the pound!"

IMO, no one should be breeding period unless they show, and their dogs have titles and are OFA and CERF certified.

:D

I know most people don't think that way- don't take it as an insult, it's just my opinion. I just think that even the best breeders can make mistakes when pairing dogs, and they really know their stuff.

BTW, I think someone said keeshonden were little? Orchid's almost 40 lbs, and she's 7 months old... I mean...to me little would be a pomeranian, or a min pin. :)

Honestly, she is too big. She should only be 32 lbs. Her father was a big boy, though.
