Damiri, our stray Greyhound (we think) pup, is finally at the vet. We got her out of the shelter on 9/22. We are asking the vet for a determination of her approximate age, and to see if she conforms to Greyhound physiology and chemistry. We are also having her spayed, immunized, tested for parasites, and we are getting a baseline set of chemistries. If she is, indeed, a Greyhound, her numbers will not be normal.

I'm really curious what they will find. Since she has been with us, her teeth have grown in, her forelegs and muzzle have lengthened and narrowed, her thighs and loins have developed. Behavior-wise, she has started to do some typical Greyhound behaviors, like roaching, rooing, and reverse barking in her sleep. I'll have more pics, soon.

Actually, I posted in the "Stray Grey" thread, sorry. Based on her teeth and the fact that she was almost, but not quite ready for her first heat, the vet places her age at 8-9 months, so our estimate of 6-8 at the time we got her out of the shelter wasn't far off. The shelter's estimate of 1 yr was off, though, but it is rare to see a Greyhound pup. Her blood chemistries place her squarely in the Greyhound profile and not in the profile for most other breeds. For the purposes of anesthesia, immunization and drug sensitivities, she is being treated as a Grey.
