Who is stupid enough to leave a 22 mths old toddler with 4 dogs, even if it is just for a couple of minutes.I will never understand that.He is going to be convicted for involontary homicide. i really feel so sorry for the family.

That poor family.......they will all be in my thoughts and prayers :(. I am sure it was just an accident...poor judgement on the fathers part.

Stupid ppl should be sterilized!! You need a license to have a dog, but any fool can have kids. Just my opinion.

Sorry can't get the link to open but surmise from your comments some silly person Or persons have left a child alone with a dog no matter what the breed its the deed not the breed, you just do not do this common sense tells you that. Can't say any more as I don't know what the link actually says. (Would think it is probably down to irresponsonsible owners.)

I aint pushin this toward no body, But, have yall noticed, almost everytime a article orwhatever like that comes out,its ALWAYS about Pit Bulls????? It makes me mad. But yes, I hold this family up in prayers.
How terrible!
The article says the 22 mo. old child was pulled from his bed, by the dogs. Not to defend the father, (as it was stupid to leave a baby alone with 4 dogs) but I'm sure he was thinking that since the boy was in bed there would be no problem.

At least for once the dogs aren't geeting the entire blame this time they are holding the father accountable for leaving his child unattended.

And I have to wonder-who wants to own four of these dogs? Someone who wants to give them a good home? Someone who wants protection for the family? Were the dogs exercised and trained, left to fend for themselves? But it all gets reduced to a single headline, 'toddler mauled by pitbulls' or similar.

I too feel for the family and agree it's good that the owner is actually being forced to shoulder the blame in these circumstances. Although it does make me wonder - what kind of dogs would maul a sleeping child??? It's not like the child was unintentionally upsetting the dogs through it's body language or anything as is often the case - seems to be a very strange case.

Well that doesn't give very much info but all I can say is I just can't even imagine how the father feels right now. It may have been silly to leave the dogs alone with the baby but I think people have to be realistic about how many people actually believe it's ok to leave a baby for a few minutes in the same room as dogs. I think we'd all be absolutely shocked.
Please don't all jump on me for saying that because I think that was a stupid thing to do on his part, but I can't believe there can be anyone feeling as truly grief stricken and also guilty about what happened to his baby than him. I certainly wouldn't want that in my mind for the rest of my life.

The media is notorious for sensationalizing tragedy. Although this story holds its own for that.
Pit bulls are just the latest dog victims.
It used to be German Shepards, then it was Dobermans, then Rotts.
Now, for the record, I would never, ever leave my child alone with four pitt bulls. But I wouldn't leave them alone with four chihuahuas either.
As everyone knows, pit bulls have gotten a bad name because of them being used for dog fights. They are being stereotyped as being vicious, and many of them are. But they are being trained to be vicious. What about the kind, sweet, gentle ones? Will we ever see a news story about the sweet pit bull who visits sick children in the hospital? I hope so.
IMHO, you must judge the deed not the breed.

This thread was started not to put the discussion on the pittbulls but on the irresponsability of the father.
All breeds can and will bite.It has nothing to do with the size or breed.
You do not leave a child unattented with a dog,let alone 4.
I am not attacking the pitt.I am just saying that if people were a bit more conscious of what they have, you would have less accidents.A dog is an animal and as such is and can be unpredictable.

Did you guys watch the CNN show with Nancy Grace in regards to this story though? It became very much about pit bulls (unfortunately, yet again!)
I posted on it in my blog if anybody wants to see it, comment, or just follow some of the links on there:

How sad,not to let people, give their point of view!! .This is not professional.Where is the freedom of speech!!!.Pitt are depicted as being nasty, aggressive and blood-thirsty animals. This is wrong because they are only showing the side that will bring the most audience.
This was a very interesting reading, pitt Bull.

There were attacks on children by dogs recently - either pitbulls or rottweilers, and i think the animals were killed. IMHO, if an animal is capble of killing a child by attacking it when unsupervised, even if it is "playing" it shouldn't be kept when you have children!

The problem with that is that ANY dog has the potential of attacking/killing a child if a parent leaves them unsupervised together. It is stupid and irresponsible on the part of any dog owner/parents to leave a child and a dog alone together. I believe people who would expect any dog to act like a disney character around a child when left alone should stick with stuffed animals. >u.u<

i tottaly agree with you cheetah, i have 3 dogs that have been around my kids since birth, and have never shown agression twords them, but i would still not leave my kids alone with them!!! its just stupid. i absolutly trust my dogs, i do not trust my children, if one of them were to ever do something to provoke my dogsand i were not there, (which they know better) and my dogs were to attack them i would fully blame myself. it has absolutly nothing to do with the breed of dog, all in how you raise them and also in how you raise your children, i cringe everytime i see people let their kids torment dogs, my kids know better, they do play with my dogs, and the like to play horsey with them, but they are not rough in anyway, and if the dogs are done they simply stand up and walk away.
