I have a year old chihuahua/dachshund mix. He looks exactly like a chihuahua except for his long body. I want to feed my dog Royal Canin because I heard it's really good for dog health. Should I feed him Royal Canin for chihuahuas, or the one for dachshunds?

I wouldn't feed it to any of my dogs, but that's me. There are two other dog food threads in this forum with recommendations. >^_^<

I have a dachshund lab mix. I admit that I have no experience with Royal Canin, but I don't feed my dog a breed specific food. I use Canidae and Jed is doing very well on it.

I feed my girls Diamond Dog food. Flip is a very pickey eater and that's all we can get her to eat. We tried alot of different things and Diamond is the only food she will eat.

They also sell Science Diet at the vet, but I don't see that as a totally great food either lol.
Careful with that Diamond. They've been having some serious quality control issues lately. Dogs dying etc. >O_o<

Retriever Crazy: I heard that diamond dog food has caused a mysterious sometimes fatal illness in dogs. Is that over? :)

I'm not sure but our dog food is made in Iowa. The food that is getting all the recalls in made in Missouri. It's very confusing because its the same brand.

Royal Canin, from what I hear, considered a decent food.
There are more than two good foods to choose from though... here's a few that are highly recommended.
Innova
Canidae
Eagle Pack (esp holistic line)
Natural Balance
Nature's Variety
Solid Gold
Timberwolf Organics
Wellness
Blue Buffalo
I recommend going to http://www.dogfoodproject.com and learning what makes foods good or bad. You might find an excellent food that isn't on "the list" and would be worth looking more into, and you'll be able to if you know what to look for.

Hi, I find the BARF diet to be the best its 100% natural and much cheaper to feed than most complete dog foodsand tents to have a lot of benefits health wise.
If you are not keen on the idea of feeding raw then the best foods on the market are Nutro, Autarky and James Wellbeloved or Nature Diet as these are made using more natural ingredients. Bakers complete is the worst food on the market followed a close second by pedigree complete, they are full of colouring and flavourings and can often make dogs hyper.

We use Eagle pack for Zoe and Bear. We've tried Pedigree, Alpo, Pro Plan, and Natural Choice. All of them were bad for her. She has a very sensitive stomache, so up until we switched her to Eagle Pack - Original formula, she was vomitting more then normal, had diarrhea often, etc. But she's doing great now.
