Yeah, or at least hopefully. Because I really want to do Jr showmanship. We will get the dog a ILP so i can use it for Jr shows, because it is purebred but has no papers. I'll keep you guys updated on when I get to see it and if it's the right dog for me and maybe eventually pictures! But, Oakley will always be my girl, and I'll lover her best.:D

Oh I hope I do get it. What inspired all this is we were searching petfinder and saw a whippet in a shelter, So my e-mailed them a super long e-mail telling them about us and stuff so they e-mail back and said "sorry the dog is gone." (Note, this happened 3 times!) So yeah, then I found this place called WRAP, whippet rescue and placement, and saw a rescue in our area. I was tired by then so this is the message we sent her. "Please say you have a whippet available for adoption, we can't seem to find one anywhere."
So she e-mails back and says "You're in luck, I'm picking up one this week on thursday!"
Then we e-mail her our application and she e-mails back saying. "You guys live so close, whya don't you come and visit!"
(this is the part where I faint from excitement)
So, yeah we are planning to go down sunday afternoon to meet the rescuerer and dog, so pray it all goes well!

Good luck with your adoption. Whippets are great fun and show well, and they make great companions. There were three Whippets in the Virginia Beach Kennel Club show, earlier this month (but no Greyhounds...), and one was in the Jr. showmanship competition, IIRC. I'm looking forward to pics!

Hi Star
Hope you get your Whippet fingers crossed for you ,
They are a lovely breed but I love all sighthounds so perhaps I am a bit biased.I know you love Oakley so much but I am sure there is enough love in you heart to Love the Whippet as well but in a different way. Oakley will always be special 'cause you had her first but the little Whippet should be just as special there is enough love for both of them. Hope it works out for you Star. I think it is important that youngsters like you have an interest such as dogs, you are the dog people of the future, and it is good that you have an interest. Keeps you off the streets and from getting into bother and into things like drugs. When my daughter was your age she was so into Junior Handling and showin her dogs and it kept her away from trouble and from getting in with the wrong crowd.

Ok heres the update. We looked on petfinder and saw a whippet in a shelter for adoption, we e-mailed them, they e-maild back saying they already had a home for Dash.
SO, we contact this WRAP person and they saw they have one available for adoption and that she would be picking him up this thursday.
SO THEN, she calls us and saw on the application that I wanted it to be a show dog. My mom tells her that we wanted this one in Rome on petfinder and the lady says "Hey thats the whippet i'm going to pick up!"
SO THEN, she says she personally owns a show whippet that she'll give to me to show. O.o This dog is all trained in confirmation and already has some championships under her belt. So its official, we get our fence fixed and I get a ILP for the dog in my name. BUT the lady wants 2 litters from this dog, so when she has been bred 2 times she'll transfer the pedigree into me name!
WOOOOO! This is turning out WAY better than I thought. Oakley will always be my girl though, no fancy show dog will ever one up my Oakley mutt. ;)

The lady was the one that suggested the ILP thingy in my name and all that, so I went with it. BUT for the ILP the dog MUST BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED. Well Vanna (whippet's name) Is not getting spayed. I'll just have to show her in the shows, not under Jr. showmanship. In Jr.showmanship the JRs. and judged on how they persent their dogs, it has nothing to do with the dog. But in real shows It's all about the dog. I think I'll do that. It is a steal. A Show whippet at the rescue price of 300.00. We are getting our fence fixed, which means if I want to own another sight hound in the future we're all set.

Wait a sec... You are paying $300, and you are expected to breed her twice. Are you also expected to pay the vet bills on the two litters? Or will the breeder take her to her house for the whelpings? Just wondering if you're clear on what's going to be expected of you financially, and it sounds strange that she won't transfer the title to you. Theoretically, she could at some point before signing her over, just take her from you, and you are out the $300 plus costs. It's all up to you, but usually in this sort of situation, you would be asked to sign a contract, pay for the dog, and you could expect to immediately be granted *co-ownership* of the dog. That way, you both have some legal standing. A formal co-ownership registration would be required with the AKC. There is a fee involved, I'm not sure how much. ($50?)
JMO. I'm excited that you're excited, but having been in show biz, I am wary of loopholes and possible unscrupulous dealings. BTW, as co-owner, that does *not* necessarily mean you two would share costs--that would be something in the contract. Usually co-ownership would mean you would incur all costs associated with housing, vet bills and show fees. Also, show homes (what you are offering) are very *desireable* to find for a breeder, so keep that in mind. You are offering something that has value. Good luck!

NO, when she is in heat I'll take her down to her "owner" and she'll take it from there. I really dunno much more than that.

and we were going to have the pedigree in "her" name and the dog under the ILP in my name but dogs under the ILP must be spayed. Soooo, she is putting the dog's pedigree intirely in my name.

Yup she will be all mine and I'll "give" the lady the litters, she'll do all the breeding stuff. I can't wait! I've always wanted to show! I tried stacking Oakle and she was all "what are you doing you carzy human?" but prolly because I wasn't doing it right. =P We'll go to a confirmation class and I'll be the one learning, this dogs been there and done all that.
