Castration?? help..

What’s the benefits of having my dog castrated?:eek: he is a 5 year old Lhaso Apso who is unaffectionate and when walked just wants to lick the ground where bitches have urinated, will castration stop him licking and make him more affectionate? any downside / risks?

hi personnally i would have neutured any dog i wasnt going to breed from! to have a male dog living with all those hormones and never allowing it to have sex is mean! if you castrate him the side effect are that his metabolism will slow down so you will need to adjust his food intake and his exercise because he will put on weight but you will get a nicer more receptive dog who will not be as aloof and independant

Nuetering has many benefits and one being he will loose interest in females and be more in then with you and your training or whatever you are wanting to do with him.

It also reduces the risk of testicle cancer ( of course LOL ) and you will have a more even tempered dog.

There are more benefits but those are the most important.

Hi don't know how it affects the coat on your breed, but i had to have my boy castrated at 10, now 13 ,he has this huge wooly coat that he hates me grooming:eek:

I would get him neutered. Any dog that you are not planning on breeding I would deffinately get fixed. Although in the future I would try to get them fixed much earlier on.

The only downside is the weight gain usually, but that shouldnt be too much of a problem as long as you monitor the food intake and make sure he gets plenty of excercise...which should be done whether the dog is fixed or not
