My beagle crys all night. All day too. Any time shes not being held shes being a whiner. Shes 6 weeks old and we just got her. Do think her behavior will continue? Or do you think she will chill? We got a pug thats 9 weeks old and when we got him he was sooooo good. Barely cried at all. Im just wondering what others experiences are. Thanks for any input.

Your puppy is very young and is more then likely suffering from seperation anxiety. Six weeks is a bit to young to be taken from the mother and probably was not weaned yet.

How are you keeping your pup ? Are you crating it ? What do you do when the pup cries ?

Try putting a big soft toy in the puppys bed my daughter did this with her 6week old puppy and it worked a treat she would cuddle up with it as if it was another pup. good luck they are a lot of work but well worth it.

Beagles shouldn't be taken away from mom and siblings until 8 weeks of age. :)

Damonic, Pugs were bred to be companion dogs, beagles were not, you cannot expect the same type of behaviour, beagles were bred for hunting.
I know people who are still using them to trail and bay deer.
From talking to some reputable beagle breeders and owners in the past, they will mostly be fairly active, energetic and vocal (even if not from working lines), and remember a beagle would much rather chase a scent than listen to you.
As for the crying, i'd be holding the pup in your lap on his back cradled in both arms so he feels secure, so that he remains submissive, and maybe doing it everyday for a couple of weeks, this way, it'll comfort the pup, and also curb some of his independant nature, by letting him know you are the boss, hope this helps some:D

I got my beagle a litte past 6 weeks and she was not a whiner at all. But I am sure it is separation anxiety. I would just try to be around her as much as possible to make sure she knows you are there and she is not alone. I dont think it should last too long.

I know its hard with such a little baby, but they quickly learn that when they whine, they get their way. I'd try to give her lots of attention when she is not whining and back off a little while whining.

I'd also keep her crated next to the bed so she can see and smell you, but not be allowed out except at the times you designate for pottying. Put a worn shirt with your scent in her crate and a pillow over your head.

Wow, thats pretty young. I got my beagle at 9 weeks and he was a big cry baby at first but he slowly got better and cryed less at night and when we were gone. Now at 17 weeks he does very well, even in his crate in the truck when we take him places. At the most he will cry the first 10 seconds then he will stop.

How is it going so far? has it improved?
