Is it possible to set up a forum site shop.
I suspect nearly everyone has bought something for thir pet & now wants to sell it, or, give it to a good home.
It could generate a bit of interest & would be self running. :D

Exactly........ quite a few other forums have them, it doesnt seem to present a problem with the moderators.
I just thought it would be a good idea to have one here. Any sale agreement would be between the people concerned & no liability to the forum. It could be really helpful to a member who is looking for a particular item & could be sourced my someone with apossible savings to the member.

A Flea Market might be a good idea, as long as it isn't abused by spammers and marketers. Beyond that, there are some of us who make goods for sale with the proceeds going to support rescue and adoption. I understand the admins' desire to prevent commercial intrusion into our forum, and having moderated other boards, I know that it is a contant battle to prevent abuse with all the unscrupulous marketers out there. Asking for a marketplace places a burden on the admins and mods that they may not be willing to accept. The ToS are pretty clear on the subject of commercial posting.

Hi Inn keeper that is a good idea if Admin agree, but I also have to say that I can see what Vagreys is getting at and it may be really difficult for Admin to police.

No decision has been made on this at this time, but as has been posted above, a For Sale section requires an enormous amount of moderation effort. If we do institute such a section, member will likely need to earn the right to post in there, most likely by earning a minimum number of reputation points. While this will not guarantee that all of the sellers are honest, it will at least force any potential scammers to make a positive contribution to the site. Any deals made between members would be strictly between those members, and the site would take no liability for such transactions. However, anyone proven to have scammed or attempted to scam any of our members would be banned from the site.
I'm guessing that we'll want the site membership and staff to grow a bit more before undertaking a project like this, but we will definitely keep it in mind as we plan for the future.

Our membership base is still pretty small, so there's not as much of a market as there would be if we had, say, 1000 visitors per day instead of 100. Also, with the small staff that we have now, there's limited manpower to moderate a for sale section. All I was suggesting is that more members and a larger staff would make such a section much more viable. I have no doubts that we will get there in time. :)

Would'nt a shop help increase membership by adding even more interest
