Me again! I'm just curious, both my westies are getting older now and have started to get brown beards and feet. I know this is from their salava but I was wondering if there's anything I can do to whiten it again? I've heard I could bleach it but that sounds a bit harsh, especially as it would be so near to their mouth.
Here's a clip of them out walking, you can see what I'm talking about.....

Anyone got a similar problem or know of a solution?

There is a solution that is called 'Stain remover' particuarly good for white coated dogs, I think it is made be Johnson & johnson, (good company) It for exactly what you are asking, stain removal on beards & ...er....the other end. Should'nt cost you any more than £1.49 to £1.99 a bottle.

Watched your video, great pair of Westies, I liked the bit where you were filming from behind them & the one kept looking back at you......... they're great.
Hope you find the stain remover ok, but keep clear of the eyes & rinse off when job done, would'nt want these little crackers licking the area.

Hi Westie lover. I agree with Inn keeper but if the stain remover doesn't do the trick you could try Bio Groom "Magic White" Whitener /Cleaner its type of drey shampoo which you spray on and brush off also good for keeping all areas clean and white without having tp bath the dog. Its a bit more expensive than the stain remover approx £6 or £7 plus postage and you can buy on line through Hub International. Hope this helps. I use this on my dogs and think it is fantastic.

Brown stains on the paws from licking can be a result of many things, including allergies that make the paws itch. In combination with brown stains on the beard, though, you may want to check for gum disease or other infection of the mouth that would cause excess salivation. Gum disease sometimes causes brown stains around the mouth and front paws.

I agree with Vagreys. You need to rule out allergies first. Your vet can do a blood test to ascertain if they are allergic. If they are - your vet can give them injections to help.

Unfortunately not. The amount of money we've spent on vets bills over the years must run into the thousands. Westies are prone to skin complaints and both of ours have them. Our own fault, we should have insured them!
Thanks for the replies, looks like another trip to the vets!
