Origin: Despite its appearance, the Min Pin is not a miniature Doberman. In fact, the min pin is a much older German breed that predates the Doberman by some 200years. It is thought to have been developed by crossing the German smooth-haired Pinscher with smaller breeds, possibly the Italian greyhound and the smooth Dachshund. In it’s homeland it is often called Reh Pinscher because of its resemblance to a small species of deer. The breed was originally used as a barnyard ratter but has now become a popular companion dog. One of its most engaging characteristics is the high stepping gait, like that of a hackney. Min Pin is a breed with fearless animation, complete self –possession and a spirited presence. Colours may be solid red or stag red or black and tan or solid brown with rust or yellow markings. These little dogs are very alert and active.

Our little min pin was more of a handful then my Dobby. She had to be watched carefully when outside. She was known to kill mice, go into groundhog holes, into calverts (sp) attacked a Porcupine (nasty trip to the vets) She thought she owned our house. She was the greatist little dog and lived to be 20 years old. These dogs may be little bought they are very strong and do not think they are little at all. :D

MinPin's are cute! Rudy when he was young was chased by one, well, sort of. LOL... The MinPin wanted to se ehim and sniff his butt and Rudy was scared of him. It was quite a sight, big Dobe being chased by little MinPin. LMAO! :D:D

i just posted regarding possibley getting a minpin as a 2nd dog... what are your suggestions? i have a 5 month old lab mix (24 lbs, bit of a runt :P) and the minpins we have as an option are a 15 month old boy (submissive according to current owner) or an 8 week old puppy (either girl or boy, they haven't been weened) could a minpin (especially an older one) come into a home with another dog?

A lot depends on the dogs disposition, if the dog to be introduced is submissive there isn't usually a problem, but just like people some dogs won't ever get along, so it is always best to do the first introduction on neutral ground (away from the home) so you see how they interact.

i got her! her name is Mischa, but she actually came through a rescue... bad experience with the rescue, they lied about her being spayed an fully vetted, but otherwise, she's great (though she was previously abused so she has some men issues with strangers and seperation anxiety when it comes to me)
she's 9 months old and PERFECT. :D
