Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the forum and would like some advice.

We have a very pampered Staffie dog who is 6 in May. He has always been babied, is very placid and gentle, very affectionate and very none confrontational.
We have been asked if we would like to 'adopt' a 2 year old Staffie bitch who is in need of a good home.
The owner of the bitch has to work away a lot and the dog is left with his girlfriend who is very wary as they have a brand new baby and feels the dog has always been a handful as she is very excitable and boisterous.
Last week I visited the home of the bitch, taking my dog to see if they 'got on' with each other.
At first there was a lot of growling, barking and jousting between them. The bitch would run away then charge back and jump at my dog who in turn, stood his ground but didn't assert his authority as the alpha male.
The wife is worried that if we take the bitch (which we would love to), that our dog would be bullied by the bitch.
Sorry for waffling on but has anyone been in the same position and offer some insight.
We don't want to put our 'baby' through any unnecessary distress but we have always thought he would love the company of another dog.
Thanks.
Brian.:)

I would try having the dogs meet again, but on neutral ground; say, at a park neither of them has been to a lot.

It almost sounds as though the bitch was playing with him (as in charging away only to run back and jump on him)? It's hard not seeing it.

I agree taking the dogs for walks together and letting them have a run in the park so they can get to know each other before you bring her into his home. Also I like to have a crate for a few weeks, so if things get too much you can put the new dog in for a wee while the dogs are still together but you are in controll I used one for 12 weeks when we brought a 5 month Rotti home beside a 10 year old spoiled Doberman. It takes time but now they get on great and he plays with her like having 2 pups. Good Luck and don't worry if there is anything you want to know just ask and we will try to help. Welcome to the forum.
