hi i own a coydog :) her name is Zoey and i think she is great. Granted she is a lot of work, but i think its worth it.

Do you guys have any advice for me and Zoey? I have only owned normal dogs before and she is different than most dogs. For starters she doesn't bark, at all. She is also a quick learner.

She is also 16 months and still has baby teeth coming out? How long did your hybrids teeth for? Here are some pics.

I don't know anything about hybrids but would love to hear more about the adventures of Zoey & look forward to seeing more pics & stories about her.

They're illegal here in the UK unless you have a licence which means they have to be kept locked up.

By the way... Coydogs that happen as a result of nature, are legal if they are social, and if they are rescues. (Where i live, at least)

Excuse my ignorance Zobo, but I have never heard of a coydog. Could you please tell me all about them. Sounds interesting. Do you have any other piccies?

Zoey's mom was a purebread austrailian sheapard and her dad was a coyote. We live in a rural area and there are lots of coyotes here. Normally they eat your pets but if they are horny they will mate with dogs.

She was rescued. her story is under "rescues/zoey's story"

When she was a baby we went to the vet where we used to live and he told us that she was not a dog, but a hybrid. he said they were legal if they were rescued and not agreessive. He gave her the shots and a couple weeks later spayed her. She used to look like a cat and was bright orange. My mom even asked me what she was when she first meat her.

Granted i do agree that no everyone should own a hybrid. They take lots of time and energy. She needs lots of attention and play time. But i totally believe she is worth it.

I'm the proud momma of a wolf, but have owned a few wolfdogs in my lifetime. They are wonderful animals and congrats on having a nice little rescue to be part of your family.

I'd suggest making sure she is well socialized and has a little more than basic commands down pat. Have you trained her to do an emergency come? It's important with all dogs, but my hybrids have always been more difficult and hard-headed, and never wanted to listen when they had their eyes on something they wanted. Emergency calls saved lives on more than one ocassion in my experience.

Other than the socialization and training, these dogs are not much more difficult than your average dominant breed. They are, of course, best in the hands of experienced owners, but they can be great joys for anyone lucky enough to have them warm up.

Good luck with your baby.

Thank you....ibizan... how long did it take for your pups to get all their adult teeth?

For the most part she listens. She also immitates us. It's cold were we live so we have a hallway entrance. When we go shopping we empty the car and place the bags there. then once inside we make trips to the kitchen with the bags. Zoey just started dragging the bags to the kitchen, so we gave her treats. A couple of days latter we came home and she had moved all my purses and my husbands backpacks (we do various outdoor activities) into the kitchen and was proubly sitting next to our stuff when we got home. i had to give her a treat.

If we go for a long walk, play session in the morning she will do anything i tell her too that day. If i have to leave early and don't give her full attention in the morning, she will pretend to de deaf. she'll juwst sit there and stare at you.

She is very social. We go to various dog parks and to the dog beach. She also goes to doggy day care (which se loves) and she has many play dates with some of our friends dogs. She also loves to play with the neighbors husky (The husky can jump the fence, so sometimes he is already waiting by the door for me to let her out.)

If you say "come here NOW" she will stop whatever she is doing and come. It comes in handy at the park and when we go for hikes. She only uses the leash if we go to the store or are in the city.

She also dug herself a den, a huge hole where she fits in.She likes to sit in it and watch the birds and other critters run arround. She sleeps on the bed with us and is mostly an inside dog, but if its sunny in the afternoon i let her just sit outside and watch stuff for hours.

i would love to hear stories about your hybrids.

I have found this thread very interesting and what a beautiful dog. I had no idea what a coydog was but I sure do now. I guess that is like crossing a dingo with another dog here. Have met a few dingo crosses and they have been lovely natured dogs. A lot depends on the owners tho.... they have to be committed. Look forward to hearing more about your coydog.

Ohhhh how sweet! This all reminds me of the two Wolves we raised when I was younger! They were so smart and quiet. I should imagine a Coydog would be a very interesting and intelligent pet to keep!

i'd like to hear more about your wolves.

Thankyou all for being so nice. I normally have to defend the fact that i have her, but she is extremely well taken care off. I play with her and brush her everyday.

Once people meet her they back off.

Sorry if I sound rude, but that doesn't look like a coydog to me. I would be expecting the hair to be longer and rougher. They generally look like a mailnois mix.

Though it's possible shes a coydog, she looks more like a domestic mix to me. Did you actually see them mating?

She looks like a aussie shep x aussie cattle dog mix to me.

No, we say the coyote leaving. And our vet told us she was a coydog.

I actually get her hair trimmed, and comb her everyday.

I wouldn't trust a vet to say she was a coydog.. I believe you saw a coyo leaving though. I'd trust that more than I'd trust a vet xD

Well you can believe what you may but i have no reason to doubt the vet.

He did blood tests spayed her and gave her her shots. We live in the middle of nowhere so he treats cows and horses as well. He even recomended we skip some shots untill she got older.

In the UK there are 2 wolfdog breeders, since the Czech wolf dog and the saarllos are recognized breeds owning them is now ok in some areas, depends on the local council though www.hebrideanwolfdogs.com has some interesting hybrid info

lol, what a beautiful animal!

If I recall, wolf puppies mature faster than dog puppies, but past those first few days they mature more slowly...the wolf types typically dont hit puberty until two years, wheras dogs usually hit it 6-9 months....they just mature slower over all. Hope that helps ;D

I believe that my 15 month old Clementine is a coydog, too.

I found her at about eight weeks of age at a flea market; a man had her shoved in a little birdcage, sitting in a puddle of her own feces and urine. She could barely move and sat with her head down, not making eye contact with anyone. I threw the requested $25.00 at the man, tore the cage apart getting her out of it, and off we went. In retrospect, it probably wasn't the smartest thing I could have done, as I live in a small apartment in the heart of Hollywood...but now I wouldn't trade her for anything. I just couldn't leave her behind in those conditions.

I was very lucky in that she was relatively healthy; she had a minor eye infection and worms. I did spend a small fortune getting her healthy, shots, spayed, treatment from being attacked (by a weiner dog, no less), and microchipped.

She started out looking like a fat little German Shepherd, and slowly morphed into a coyote. I didn't see it for a very long time (I look at her everyday!), but after the 50th person asked me if she was Coyote, I started to do some research. The first picture of a coydog I pulled up looked so much like her it startled me.

She is so great in so many ways, but I certainly would never recommend intentionally searching out a coydog. She has many coyote mannerisms...the yipping, the pacing, her gait, the digging of a den, etc. She's very skittish. She's very shy around most people (oh, but the people she knows, she won't leave them alone!). She's a bit high-strung. She has the most sensitive stomach; she can eat dirt and sticks and dead lizards just fine, but give her any sort of human food and it passes right through her. She simply cannot process it. She has endless energy. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't live at the base of the biggest off-leash dog park in Los Angeles. But she's also very loving, very intelligent, excellent off-leash, and happiest when she's at the bottom of a big pile of dogs. She's famous in the neighborhood as the 'little coyote', to the point where people stop me and say that they've heard about her.

I wouldn't trade her for anything, but again, really think before adopting a hybrid. She has SO much energy and she's SO obstinate; I have to be very militant with her. I definitely have to establish dominance over her often. She's certainly no walk in the park.

Coincidentally, my neighbor has a Wolf/German Shepherd hybrid. Sweetest dog on the planet.

Hi. Umm, Ok, I Think I Have A Hybrid, But I'm Not Certain As I Can't Find A Decent Picture Of One Anywhere. My Vet Says She's A German Shepherd-chow, But I Just Don't Think So. She's Very Slim And Long And Has The Face Of A German Shepherd, But Not The Tail. Her Tail Is Sorta Like A Question Mark, But Doesn't Bend Or Not Nearly As Fluffy As A Chow And She Kinda Slinks When She Walks. I Just Don't Think A Chow Is In This Mix. Does Anyone Have A Good Picture Of Their Hybrid So I Can Compare? I'm New To This Site, So I'm Just Getting The Feel Of How It Works. Sorry If I Post This In The Wrong Area. Thanks, 16puppypaws

I don't know how the others feel, but I think it might be more helpful if you posted a pic of your pup. Unless someone knows the exact breed of the mother and the father...well, we're all kind of guessing! My dog looks like she's perhaps German Shepherd and Coyote, and a friend has a dog that he thinks is Chow and Coyote. While his dog and mine have very similar mannerisms, they look absolutely nothing alike.

I'm very interested in seeing yours!

Hi, Whipperton, Please Stay Tuned For A Good Pic Of Nikki. (she Won't Hold Still So I Can Catch Her In All Her Glory!) I Have Posted A Couple Of Her And Reggie. You Can't Tell Much By Them, But Check Them Out! Too Cute And Too Funny!
By The Way, Any Suggestions On Shedding? I Have Brushed And Brushed Her, But It's Like She's Carrying Around A Conjoined Twin! Lol! I Mean, I Brush Her And I Get Another Dog!
Do You Have A Coydog? I'm Very New To This And Am Still Trying To Figure Out How To Navigate, So If You Do Have Pics, I Just Haven't Figured Out How To Get There. Sorry.
Thanks For Your Interest In My Baby.
God Bless Our Children!
Ps, What Does Scorched Mean?

Hi Still Have No Idea About How This Site Works. Geez, I Feel Dumb. Thanks To You All For Being Patient With Me.
Whipperton, I Hope You Took That Cage And Feces And....well, You Know What I Hope You Did, But Regardless, You Get Your Baby Out Of There. Bless You For That.
Again, I Apologize For Not Finding Out More About You Sooner. Seems I'm Learning Something With Every Click.
I Got To Read You're Story About The Mannerisms And Such Of A Coyote And I Am Becoming More And More Convinced That Nikki Is Indeed A Coydog. (i Promise, I Wi Send You A Pic As Soon As I Can Get One That You Can See What I See) - If She Lets Me.
I Have Just Never Seen The Mannerisms She Has In Any Dog I've Had Before And She Is Sooooo Protective Of The Homefront. We Let People In And She Comes To Me For Protection And The Ok, But She Never Relaxes.
Other Than That, Her Hair Is Up And She Is Ready To Go.
She's Very Dainty In Her Eating, And When She Gets In Bed, She Grabs The Covers With Her Mouth To Adjust Them, I've Never Seen That. She Just Doesn't Act Like A "dog." Ya Know? All I Know Is, She's Special, And I'm Sorry It Took This Long For Someone To Realize It.
And, Again, I Thank You For Being Patient With Me And For Your Interest.
