Well, george got an EXTREME makeover today... and totally not in a good way :D. It was time for the trimming of the thick coat he grew in for winter. The usuall groomer was out of town, so her new apprentice was doing the cutting this weekend. Well let's just say george is changed man :)

He was shaved almost to the skin- and being an older dog this means a completley bald tummy. His legs were trimmed shorter than his body, giving him little toothpick legs that look too flimsy to stand on. His head was trimmed to be a half circle (like a "D" turned on its side). shaved to the skin on the arch of the nose with a very distinguished mustache. ALL the hair was left around his ears making them very pronounced. but hey, hair grows back almost as quick as dignity :p

anybody else have any bad haircut stories to share?

Well, hair grows back quickly at least. :) I like the "Extreme Makeover"! LOL!

Gator had a major grooming incident. The timing couldn't have been worse either. Gator was a show dog, and my husband does all the grooming. He was headed out to a Bouvier Specialty in DC (major dog show), and as he was trimming the ears, he lopped off the very tip of one ear. :( That required 3 stitches, he missed the show, and my husband felt terrible! Those sheers are so sharp!

Good luck next time. Maybe you can be more specific about what you like and don't like to see. The groomer should listen. :)

BTW, the picture in your avatar is just adorable. Tons of character!

Ditto the avatar! My schnauzer mix looked very similar. Being a pound puppy, never sure just what she was, but with a schnauzer haircut-she looked the part except for the long tail. New groomer once shaved her tail! It looked like a rat tail, but as you say the hair grows back.

Awwwwwwwwww, you're going to give that cute lil guy a complex. LOL, what the heck, it might give him a new perspective about how the other half lives. Hope he's not too chilly. But seriously, this too shall grow & you'll have learned an invaluable lesson after falling into the trap of the unexpected result coming from the assumed regular grooming session. I'm sure it could have happened to all of us.

I have a similar cat story ... had a cat who was on the show bench who got a pyometra in the middle of her show career. She, of course, had to leave the show bench to recover & after she did, I wanted to run standard bloodwork just as a safety check to make sure she was really ready for her return to the show bench. All of the vets & techs at the clinic knew my cats were show cats & never to shave anything without my specific permission ... but then again, everybody spaces out sometime. So, yes ... her leg got shaved & our show season went down the tubes but she did go on to make gorgeous babies who made it to the show bench on her behalf. Live 'n Learn as they say.

Well, I give my cocker spaniel bad haircuts quite often. I don't have the money to send her every 3 weeks for a trim. But, she thinks she's beautiful! She will prance around as if she doesn't look stupid. I'm getting better with practice, and she will be happy to let me practice for cookies! Fur does grow back, and the other dogs don't laugh much!

Only one bad grooming incident. When my 4yr old granddaughter decided all of Zoey's fringes and the plume on her tail needed to be removed. Zoey's hair is recovering much quicker than the haircut Ali J gave herself. I am so thankful she did that at home.

My grooming experiences do not provide all that many mishaps, though I have accidentally cut a few dogs when trying to remove mats that the dog would not let me get with the clippers. Ouch! And the poor dogs. I certainly learned my lesson: be more careful!

thanks for the replies everyone! i guess im getting used to his haircut. But the poor guy got shaved so close he shivers on walks. It's really sad to see- but he loves his walks so much he still goes. At least its hair that grows back and not something worse. ill post a few pics when it grows back in- i dont want to eternalize this haircut with any photographs :D
happy valentines day from me and george!

I've had a few bad haircuts with my dogs when they get distracted and move right as I'm about to cut, invariably I'm using new scissors or clipper blades that are so sharp they take off all of the hair in that area. Thankfully it's just hair that will grow back!
