Welcome to DogForum.org. :)
I have no idea, what exactly is this cross ? Beagle and Cavalier ?
Probably between 10-12 yrs if that is what the cross is.

Hi! Welcome! I'm new here too. The Beaglier is a new one on me too. Sorry I can't help.
I'd love to see a pic of that cross. Please post a pic so we can all see your new family member.

hi, yes beagalier beagle + Cavalier so going by what you say 10-12 yrs should he be getting on at 7 ? the reason i ask is he likes to sleep alot and as we got him from a shelter we dont know his history so i cant work out if he is lethargic or just tired due to his age.... thanks for replying

hi katz i will post one when i take a better one, he is currently sleeping but he is a darling with my little ones and he follows me around from room to room and im just in love with him. His size is that of a beagle and he has the short hair of a beagle but his face is a mix of the two.

Have you had him to the vet yet ? He could be wormy and that can sap the energy out of a dog.

Well honey it is half Beagle and some Aussie dog in it, so sweet regardless. Being a smaller breed I would extend to say it may to a good 15 yrs or more, cross your fingers as I had Bostons to live near 18 yrs old. Keep it on good kibble, exercise daily, playing and lot of love it will live a nice long life you you and so adorable I could hand out a free hug real quick.

thanks for the replies, i will take him to the vet on monday, i know the shelters have them vet checked and wormed but i just want to make sure, its been a while since i had a dog and you will probably see a lot of my posts with a lot of questions, i hope you can all bare with me ;) He seems to become more lively when he hears the neighbours dogs.....maybe he is lonely? Anyway thanks for the kind words and i uploaded a picture, i think there is a better one in my profile.

He's beautiful! Sounds like it might just be a lot for him to handle for one day & he needs some extra rest.

Considering he is a mix and not well bred, his life expectancy will most likely be shorter than the purebreds.

Honestly, I think the opposite is more often true.

That is not the case, crosses can live as long as pure breds. It really depends on the dog and also how it has been feed etc etc during it's life.

My mother has had cavaliers since since was a young woman- now over 50 years- if the dog came from good stock meaning they checked hearts, she has had them live to be 15. Beagles are usually hearty so its a safe beat as long as the heart is good to be 12-13 years... Have to taken the dog to the vet for a general exam. Heart defects show up early..
AND WELCOME!

I think sometimes too that crossbreeds live longer, actually I am hoping they do as I have an Irish wolfhound cross!

I disagree. Mixes can actually live longer than purebreds. I've heard that purebreds are more prone to diseases than mixes are too.

well yes and no.. if the genetics took two positives of a bad trait- it makes it dominant.. Its like a double up...

Not true either. :)
Mixes and PB's can have ther same life expectancy with the same genetic diseases. Just cause they are crosses and mutts doesn't mean they are any more healthy then PB's.
