Hi I'm hoping to get a retired racing greyhound soon and have been looking at a crate for her.
Would this one be big enough?

Or this one?

What do you think? I thought they were pretty good prices.

Thanks, Sarah

Hi Sarah and welcome to the forum from me and my Gang Good on you for rescuing a retired racing greyhound, they make abosultely super pets.

I think you would be better with the second one the bigger of the two for a greyhound and yes it is a good price.

Good luck and do lets see pictures when you get your grey.

Darn, I know the correct size is on this forum somewhere. I thought it was 48 inches, not the 42 inch size. Vagreys is the one here who is one of the greyhound experts. Perhaps he will chime in. Those look like good prices to me too. :)

Any crate must be tall enough and long enough for the dog to be able to stand freely and lie on it's side.

Hi I thought that too but when you read the ad for the second one and see that the breeds it is suitable for it includes the Saluki and the Standard Poodle so from that I surmise it will be big enough for a greyhound.

Heya great news you are planning to get a retired racer.

I got my Retired racer 2 weeks ago and he is wonderful. Best decision I ever made!

I have a crate for mine. It is 48" (bout 120cm)

A small bitch would be ok in a 42" but ideally i think they should have a 48".

These are big crates!

Mine has 3 doors, one of which folds on top of the crate so it is out of the way. This is ideal if you are going to leave it open for the dog to come and go in because the door is out of the way

That's the 2door version (about £5 cheaper) it comes with two bowls and a bit of vet bed (48")

This seller has loads of other crates, if you cant see the size you want give him a mail, they were very helpful when i contacted them. The tray is plastic instead of metal which i have read can crack, but as greys usually housetrain very quickly they tend to never pee in their crates and so i dont see this as a problem.

This is all assuming you want a crate for the home, if you want one for the car i would always get one made specifically for my car as this gives the grey the largest possible space and the best protection (in my opinion)

Anyway welcome to the forum. I'm very excited for you getting a greyhound is wonderful!

I'm sure Vagreys wil contact you or reply to your post soon, he is like a greyhound encyclopedia and was so helpful to me Re:getting my boy

Good luck and feel free to contact me with any questions (I am definately no expert as I've only had my boy 2weeks, but i can pass on advice i've been given and tell you what its really like when your 40mph couch potato arrives!)

Welcome to the forum

Helen

Yeah I think I'd go for the 48" I have some friends on a Rat forum with greys who've suggested that one too. I'll probably have loads of questions for you over the next few weeks about greyhounds! Thanks for all your replies.

Definitely go for the 48"x35"x30" crate. The 42" is long enough for a small Grey, but not really tall enough - no head room, and the width is small enough that when they lay down they are somewhat cramped. A 42" is ok for a temporary situation, but as your permanent crate, get the 48".

You know we demand greyhound payment for questions answered. For every question you get answered, we need a photo of your grey. hehehe teeheehee. :D :p
