I really REALLY had to shut one of my PCs down because of network problems. So I right clicked on the F@H icon and "closed" it. When I booted back up and connected, I got this:
-Previous termination of core was improper

and then much later

Welcome to the world of folding. :(

Be sure to use the quit option if you're using the graphical version or to click the little "x" if you're using the console version if you need to exit. Those provide the best chance of not losing any work, though there's still a small chance a glitch can occur.

:swearing:
I was using the line command version on that PC.
Do you mean type "exit" as if it were DOS? :swearing: I thought you said to right-click it but I guess that was ONLY for the graphical version. :swearing:

lol... ;) The little swear guys are funny. :D Not funny what happen.

My computer is 1.3Ghz..... I need a new one . If I started folding would this happen to me ? Is my puter fast enough to fold ?

No I was folding on a 433 PIII (you can all laugh now if you want!!!). The thing is, I have a bunch at work that are normally on all the time anyway so they can be folding. It was just this one that had to be rebooted. I know Taeric said that anything under about 1.1 GHz would not be worth it, but all I have are dinosaurs.

I just have to say that I love the multi-quote function. :D

For that version, just close down the DOS-like window by clicking on the X in the upper right hand corner. That causes a folding client shutdown, which is 99.9%+ likely to cause your data to save correctly. Right clicking on the item in the task bar and exiting can definitely cause issues.

You can also visit www.overclock.net (http://www.overclock.net), the sister site of DogForum. While there is a lot of high end talk going on over there, the whole spectrum of hardware and software from way back when to the bleeding edge stuff is discussed. I hold a similar position over there and know a lot more about that kind of stuff than I do about dogs, so if you do have any questions, please feel free to pose them to me if you'd like.

My computer is 1.3Ghz..... I need a new one . If I started folding would this happen to me ? Is my puter fast enough to fold ?Any computer that is operational is fast enough to fold. Some of the later Pentium 3s (about the 1.0 to 1.4 GHz range are deceptively fast due to the inner workings of those CPUs. They run a lot faster than the early Pentium 4s even though the P4 clock speeds were faster.

Anyway, folding wouldn't do anything adverse to your computer just so long as your temperatures were good. Generally, if your computer is relatively dust free and the fans are in good working order, you won't have any temperature issues on that generation of gear.

The current rule of thump is around 1.0 GHz, but I've had things as slow as a 433 MHz Celeron (Pentium 2 based) folding for an extended period of time. Every little bit does indeed help; it's just a matter of folding contribution vs. electricity cost. In a high electric cost area, it might be more beneficial in the bigger picture to donate the cost of the electricity to a worthy charity, but any contribution to the folding cause is definitely helpful to the project.
