Just because she is a pit bull...this service dog was not allowed in Wal-mart??? :(

Here’s the service dog’s website: http://www.freewebs.com/chloethepitb...rimination.htm (http://www.freewebs.com/chloethepitbull/walmartsdiscrimination.htm)

It is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and they can be fined up to about $50,000 I think.
But the problem is more than likely the manager is not the brightest bulb, not that it is a matter of Wally-world corporate policy/

Well, that isn't so hard to believe, I'm not surprised that they turned her away because of her dog...pit bulls have always had a "bad wrap" for being called a vicious/aggressive/etc. breed.

What so many people fail to realize is that this behavior isn't in every Pit Bulls background...it was taught to those dogs, by humans. Pit bulls have been used for dog fights and you have heard in the news how there have been attacks on children/people. The majority of people are going to discriminate against the breed, naturally. We live in a society where everyone is "quick to judge"...sometimes without even considering "both sides".

You could be attacked by any breed of dog...it all depends on how that dog was raised. If it was taught to fight/attack, it more than likely will...whether it be a Golden Retriever or a Pit Bull. The Pit Bull is a very strong breed, a "gladiator dog", if you focus on and encourage a Pit Bull to be a just that, you'll get nothing less...

I'm sure that woman's dog is very well behaved/socialized, otherwise it wouldn't be a guide dog. Hopefully Wal-Mart will get enough feedback to "wake" them up, send her a sincere apologetic letter, and invite her back. She has every right to shop there just as everyone else.

I don't know what her rights are...but if she can sue and come out a "winner" because of it...I say go for it :D

Breed racism at it's best.

Agree with Jean.

It flies in the face of the disability discrimination act where all people should have equal access - and if that includes a licensed 'helping' dog then they are breaking the law.
Walmart could be fined and the lady could also claim compension. She needs to seek the advice of a disability advocate and if she were in the UK I'd take on her case personally - free of charge!

I hope she is being encouraged to persue this flagrant breach of disability discrimination!

How completely unfair and idiotic. I hope she sues. I've never met a well educated pit bull I didn't like. Beautiful temperaments, beautiful dogs. What ignorant people there are out there!

She does not have to sue, all she has to do is file a complaint with the Feds (US Justice Dept), because it violates federal law-the rest takes its course. I have been close to filing a complaint against our local post office (of all things, a branch of a federal agency!!!) because they have a sign that says "No dogs allowed unless accompanying a blind or deaf person" which is a flagrant violation of the ADA. The only reason I have not is because I am not disabled and have not suffered any ill consequences because of the discrimination.

But I bet the Wal-mart attorneys at HQ have alrady figured this out and are going to offer compensation quickly, and do some damage control. This could get out of hand for them.

Are you sure this is valid??? I'm blocked from that site by my company - something to do with viruses. Makes me think it might be a hoax to get people to check it out and give them a virus!!!

Well I dug around. Chloe the Pit Bull is a service dog in training, however they have the same entry rights as fully qualified service dogs.
The gal that it happened to has posted the story on freewebs so probably your anti-virus is complaining about pop-ups. There are plenty of "aftershock" posts on craigslist and on various dog forums but no additional information. There is nothing on snopes to say it was a hoax.

There is more here where it looks like someone taped the news story:

Thanks for posting this. Sounds like the only thing "Wal Mart" is to blame for is the lack of training regarding the policy. I'd be pissed at the employee who didn't follow the policy / law and I hope that person got corrected for not allowing the dog to enter.

I left them have it good and proper. Poor dog, looks as tame as a lamb and went through extensive training to be a service dog, I left them know. Just plain and simple but firm. I said it is just outrageous to turn away a breed that is trained to do his job.:(
