its unfortuantly not illegal, poeple dont see fish the same way as other pets, i on the other hand am obsessed with my fish and take extremly good care of them i have 5 tanks running right now 3 of them are betta only tanks (NOT little cups just big enough for them to turn around in!!)i refuse to buy died fish as well its a horrible and painful proscess and most often kills the fish (a few fish to name that have this done) Parrot fish, painted tetras, glass cats, some mollies and platties, some oscars, and now they are custom tatooing fish for poeple with messages like i love you and such, its disqusting!!! i would never buy a fish that was mutilated either, they are now customizing parrot fish (which are man made hybrids to begin with) by cutting off the tails to make them heart shaped!!!!! cruelty to fish is not illegal though so theres not much you can do about it.

It also says no ones ever been convicted for it, how sad.

It's wrong that fish can be under the same laws, but not have the laws be enforced. ;-;

That is sad even for fish. It doesn't matter what the animal is, it's still crulity. What other kinda of pets are ppl going to have fight? Rabbits, cats, bulls, birds? Why do we have to be so mean to animals :(

Only just discovered this thread and Youtube has pulled these videos now (thankfully). Makes me so mad, especially as for some reason some people dont seem to think that maltreating fish is anything to worry about. And as for dying/mutilating fish! I don't know about other countries, but here in the UK reputable aquatic stores sign up to guarantee that they will not deal in such atrocities and display a poster to this effect.

That's horrible. I never knew it wasn't illegal. I guess I had assumed all animal fighting was illegal. :(

It's illegal in many places. But it's hard to catch people doing it. It's not obvious.

If you look up betta fighting on Youtube there are still many videos. It's so cruel. :( :(
