Oh, I have a real dislike for skunks. NO way would I ever consider one for a pet. It is also illegal here to own any wild animal here.

I know they are cute but Rudy and Jenna get skunked at least once a year not so cute then.

They make awesome pets. They are not much different from cats at all.

The skunk shows are very fun to watch.

I've not known one in person ... but I've heard they make great pets. But, I guess I lean on the side of wild animals should be free to be wild. Now, as a rescue, I might be inclined to give a skunk a home.

Skunks do make great pets just like cats as far as I have read. I almost bought 1 when I lived in Charleston, SC but they wanted 250$ for a baby skunk, just thought that was a bit over priced.

I saw a few litter boxes in those pics, can they be litter trained?

I think skunks are really cute, even though they have that terrible "fragrance";) Do they have to be "descented", the same way ferrets are? If not, how do you prevent them from releasing their odor?

Well, in any case, I highly doubt I will ever own a skunk, but I do think they are cute little critters :wubsmiley:

Well, I just got my answer from that site link:
Do they still have their stinkers? Our answer is, "We may be crazy, but we are not suicidal!" Domestic/pen-raised skunks are descented at about 4 weeks of age, before they leave the breeding farm.

Oh and about liter training:
Can they be housebroken? Skunks are naturally corner-trained. Place a litter box with either newspaper or UNSCENTED litter in the corner that THEY choose and they will use it there.

They are similar to ferrets, in that they like to relieve themselves in "corners".

Can they be disciplined? They will get even, if they're hit!! A common way is for them to climb up on the bed and leave an unpleasant "surprise" on the pillow of the offender! They may wait a good long while, but rest assured that they will get even. They may also bite fiercely and walk away with their head up as if to say, "So there! "That'll teach you to hit ME!" Skunks will come when they're called----if they want to ---- or if you make a noise related to food! Refrigerator doors, can openers and microwaves make excellent "skunk calls"! A stern voice and a loud clap will work wonders. They love to please and an unhappy voice from their owner makes them pay attention. Some owners use a squirt bottle for discipline.

I saw a show once about a woman who had 7 pet skunks. It was really interesting, but I don't think I would ever want them. They are cute though!

Once they were for sale in my local paper. $250 a skunk!

I used to have a skunk! They are awesome creatures and very tame if handled correctly as a baby. I'm just not happy at how ethical having them descented is!
