I am really against this as I believe there are no bad dogs just bad owners.

In the City that I live close to they have banned Pitbulls for years. After banning them they found that the number of dogs bites actually went up and not down and that one of the maiun offenders for dog bite was Labs.

They not only banned pitbull but they also banned Staffordshire's and other dogs that were similar to Pitbulls. It is NOT working here.

I have met several pitbulls over my life and not one has been mean or vicious, the exact opposite actually. Any dog can bite and become mean when not handled properly or beaten to become mean.

It is not the dog it is the owner. JMO

i totally agree. pit's are not by nature aggressive towards people. but they can be made that way. i think any one with a so called "bully" breed dog should be against legislature like this because who knows which breeds they will come after next.

we have a boxer mix and sometimes i think she looks a little lilke a pit bull, and i know she wouldnt hurt a fly, although she has a mean bark! :)

Mandatory obedience classes, and graded & tested by government officials.

That would fix a lot of problems.

Nobody is born with a drivers license, why should anybody be born with the knowledge of how to control their dog?

Alot of cities have pitbull bans. Except my city, they actually turned it down. The town council had specialists come in and say its the owners not the dogs. And now they are going to go breed specific on any dog that has a tough bite. Or i should say strong bite.
Its the owner not the dog, a dog will do what it is trained for.

They passed that kind of legislation in my city last year. I just keep hearing sad stories about it's effect.

The latest was about a dog that has spent the last 15 years going to work with his owner who owns a small pet shop. This super sweet and friendly dog must now stay home because the shop's insurance is void if the dog is on the premises.

The owner told me that it breaks his heart every morning because the dog acts as if he's done wrong and that's why he can't go anymore.

Totally sucks.

I agree we are seeing more Filas now, and presas, no dog specific legislation, but, some cities are making mandatory fines, higher license fees, making sure the owner has insurance. I cannot disagree, I am in southeastern Mass, and we have many immigrants who are macho, and think a pit makes them even more so. Many have absentee landlords, so if there is an incident, they do not care. In many cases it is children who are maimed, and require extensive surgery and skin grafts. What can I say, and more continue to come in. For many it is a way of making money, breeding, protecting their drugs and dog fights. I wonder what it is like in the countries they come from

Yes, I am angry, bigoted, trying not to be. But, if you saw what I see and have to deal with every day at the shetler, so would you be

I tottally agree with you. The cause of dogs like pit Bull Terriers being visouce is the owners fualt. The dog may of been hurt by one of it's owners. I know a Staffie and she loves children my age. She wants me to cuddle her all the time!

Pits and pitbulls were the preferred working dog of U.S. Custom's, they went shelter to shelter selecting the right dogs. Friendly, driven to work, good with children and adults and especially othe dogs

A Fila is a type of Mastiff. They are huge dogs. Here is a website about them-

Totally. I have read up on this topic alot, and I think that pitbulls or other "aggressive" dogs are not naturally like this, it is the owners.
