Well tonight on Zoe and my walk we had 2 encounters with large dogs on the way home. as we were leaving the park and heading down my street a guy and his kids were i guess taking the trash out. They had one on leash and one off. I think the one off leash was well trained. it pretty much ignored Zoe but the one on the leash started barking at her, but Zoe did pretty good, she kept wanting to turn around though.

Anyways I was a few houses down from my house at the end of the block and the people across the street had 3 dogs outside off leash. 2 big, 1 small. one of the big ones ran across the street and the guy yelled at him but it didnt listen and the little one came across to. Zoe did pretty good and just sat there, but the guy came over and grabbed the big one by the collar to take him home, the little one shortly followed. He then preceded to yell at the dog in his driveway and kept smacking his nose! I felt so bad for the dog! He shouldnt have just been letting them all outside like that off leash.

Anyways. I am proud of Zoe, on the way home I held the leash short and she walked beside me without hardly any pulling! She does much better on the way home cuz she gets tired.

But yesterday on our walk, it was soo funny cuz she got on a scent. and she was going crazy wiggling her way all over. that is the only time I have ever seen her on one like that...

Anyways....sorry this is soo long!! Just thought I would share

why didnt you say anything to that person? he had no right to smake the dog in its face. it shouldnt have been out side off the leash in the 1st place!

Well, sometimes when you see something like that, you're in such awe that it doesn't occur to you to say anything until it's too late... >o.o<

Poor dog... it's only going to learn to not come back to its owner... >-.-<

I saw the same thing a while back. We were going to garage sales and this man had 2 large Labs. They looked purebred. One, the black one, stayed in his yard off leash, but the other jetted out the door and he was screaming at it. It never came to him, I just wondered if he knew that he was teaching the dog to not come when called. He finally caught the dog by tackling it and thus smaked it on the nose. I wanted to say something to him so badly, but we were already in the car and passin his house when I saw him slap the dog. I practically felt responsible to say something, although I fear it wouldn't have done any good.

I agree. In situations like these, you're too shocked to say anything. I have never seen this happen. Lots of dogs are let off leash in my area. Anytime one runs to greet my dog, the owner usually laughs it off or is just apologetic to me. I don't mind of course :D
One time though, out on our walk, this lady was doing some gardening and she had her big dog out off leash. Not sure what kind he was but he was aggressive. He ran straight for Zoe and attacked her right there  I was so shocked and angry. How can ppl just do that? Zoe didn't even do anything. But she attacked right back and I'm proud of her. The owner didn't even apologize or anything. I was still too shocked to even say anything, so I just took Zoe and kept going.

I had no clue what I could say to him. I just took Zoe and kept walking. I dont mind Zoe meeting other dogs on walks, I just prefer them to be on leash and not running across the road. A guy on a motorcycle had to stop and wait to make sure the dogs weren't going to run in front of him.
