Description:
The Weimaraner is a sleek, moderately large, athletic dog with beautiful lines and a short, fine, smooth gray coat. All shades of gray are accepted. The head and ears are a bit lighter in color than the rest of the body. The head is long and aristocratic and the muzzle is strong. The eyes are amber, blue-gray or gray - with an intelligent expression, and the nose is gray. The ears are moderately long and pendant.
The topline slopes gently downward from the withers. The forelegs should be straight with dewclaws removed. The tail is docked to 1½ inches (4cm) when the dog is two days old. The limbs are long and muscular. The Weimaraner has webbed feet for swimming.

Wow Parker...I didn't know they had long haired varieties! :)
I agree....a while back my dad's boss used to have little partys like for Christmas at her house. And the board members were of course invited. She had a Weimaraner....that's how I saw them....she was soo sweet and playful...I loved her!

My first dog ever was a Weimerainer. I was just a kid but she was a great dog! I wasn't aware of the wire-haired variety either.
I have never heard of a wire haired variety either - there is a slovakian rough haired pointer which has the same colouring and light eyes and is derived in part from the weimaraner (it would take me ages to sort out a picture).
They are gorgeous too

yes the wirehaired variety is a controversial subject, some consider it a myth :)

I grew up with Weims, and had never seen nor heard of the long-haired variety until last fall, when I saw one at a show. It had the liver coat, and was beautiful.

I love the look of the wirehaired pointer, very intelligent and very determined dogs :) the longhaired is pretty too but I do prefer the wirehaired and the shorthaired pointers :)

I'm not to fond of Wire haired breeds. Yes some I like very much, but I guess a few years back I had a bad experience with a very ugly looking wired haired chihuahua. It felt very weird. :wtf: IMO
But I love German Wired Haired Pointers! Love 'em to death

I actually have a somewhat unique story to share on this.
In 1988 when this breed were not really seen in UK much where as now many more people have this breed I was given a Weimerainer by a girl who looked after horses for no other than Princess Di of the UK royal family (amazing but 100% true).
I was a 14 year old child from a very normal English family with working parents but my Dad's friend at the time had a neice who worked at a Royal owned home as a stable girl. She was looking at the horses for long hours and her house was being destroyed by a very unhappy puppy.
After meeting the lady and showing her we could offer the puppy a good home we were given Cleo who I lost after enjoying some golden years and happy memories. My best friend when I was a kid.
She befriended and looked after our other adopted pup which was a messy haired little terrier cross and was very lady like in the way she folded her legs and rested her head when lying down.
She had a beautiful nature, her eyes were however with large yellow ish surrounds with grey. I can only recommend people have this breed as they have lovely natures. I will scan and add a picture of Cleo who to me was a special Weimerainer with exceptional looks and a beautiful nature.

I also had a wein as a teenager. She was so very special. A wonderful hunting dog, a great companion, and she "smiled" showing all her teeth when she greeted you.

just on a side note, i fostered a weim that was 7 years old very sweet loving dog but had never been trained or taught how to live indoors, she would demolish the garbage tore apart a cabinet door that was locked just to get to it, she was terrified of thunderstorms and literally ate part of out entertainment center and part of the carpet because of her fear, she was not fully housebroken, she had no obedience training she did not even know how to sit on command she could not walk on a leash and she was not very socialized with other animals and was snappy, she was great with kids and people and she loved to ride in the car, but if you choose to get a weim it needs alot of trainning and alot of exarsize and it needs to start early on before its too late to fix it, this dog had lived in the same home for her whole life the people had to move overseas and couldnt take her with them and it was extremely hard to rehome her, she ended up going to a weim rescue because she was too hard to handle.
