There are so many shampoos today to choose from!
I just don't know which ones to pick. I want one that deodorizes, yet has a pleasent scent to it.
Which shampoos do yall use for your own dogs?
Opinions welcomed!:)

I like the oatmeal shampoo I buy at the vets. It is a Canadian brand. It says there is no soap in it and it works great and smells good!

I buy Fidos aloe vera shampoo. Smells great and gives a good wash. Don't know whether it is available over there.

Sorry but I would never use human Shampoo or soap on a dog Their ph balance is entirely different and while it may appear to give a good result in the short term in the long term it could be doing harm to the skin and the coat. I have a friend who is a vet and he always said not to use human shampoo on your dog. Buy a good quality dog shampoo there are hundreds to chose from and some suit one type of coat and some another. I personally use Wahls Brightening, but if you have skin problems then Neem 40 Shampoo is good. It is really all up to personal choice and type of coat. Its a bit like your own hair and what shampoo you use what is great for one person does not always suit the other.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m7/Jake2006_02/bigspaniels.jpgI use Neem 40 Doggie Shampoo - in fact I've just bathed Jake - he has a sensitive skin and he blows his coat if he's stressed - I find Neem 40 helps his problems.
Its recommended by the Irish Water Spaniel Association - they put me onto it - and i think you'll agree that their coats look good.

I use Mane and Tail shampoo and Mane and Tail conditioner. It is made for horses but can be used on dogs.

I use Plush Puppy wheatgerm shampoo on my Collies (except Millie who has a wheat gluten allergy) and my Powderpuff cresteds. I use Sanex shower gel on the hairless cresties and Aloe vera shampoo on their hair.

I agree- and with my white dogs I mix half and half- mane and tail and "blue" as this a whitener without harsh ph to the skin or coat. It also leaves the coat like silk.

Oh thats an awsome idea from both of you...I never thought of that
With a longhaired white dog along the way it will def. be useful!

Ceph the " blue" I am refering too is a dog shampoo. I forgot at the time there is human product for washing clothes with the same name. However- as you saw visiting my house, the coats gleam white, and the black on the coat does as well as it takes off any red residue from that wonderfully known- Virginia clay.. lol.

I use Fresh N' Clean...hands down...on the bottle it says "Scent lasts for two weeks"...it lasts longer than that! I think it's great. If you couple it with the cologne spray, it makes your dogs smell great. On Skye (shes mostly white), I've been using a horse whitener (it's purpleish)...I forget the brand...but it works swell. Smells like berries too.
When I used to work at a dog kennel...I always used this stuff called Down N. Dirty...it was the BEST at long-lasting scent and got coats squeaky clean, but since leaving there I can't find it (I can't even find it online either...) but if anyone knows where to find that, let me know so I can stock up.

ohh this is an interesting topic as i was browsing through the many shampoos in my local pet store..
i thought it wld simple to choose and didnt think for one minute it would seem as though i was choosing one for myself at the local supermarket,
there were flea deterant shampoos,medicated,non-lathering and the list went on.....i did however see a shampoo that claims to be for back haired dogs like labs *and gives that extra sheen to the coat*..but im not sure which to choose from..is it a trial and error thing with like shampoos for ourselfs?
my other query would be i have just treated lucy with a flea treatment..she does seem to be quite pongy, which is why i was thinking giving her her first bath..but would bathing her effect the treatment she has been given at all?as im not supposed to treat her again for another 3 weeks.

If I need a flea product, I use frontline. Then wait at least 3 days to bathe in the shampoo listed above in my previous post.

But don't forget-if you are using frontline or advantage you should be using a soap-free shampoo. :) If you bathe the dog in shampoo that has soap in it, it will just wash the frontline off.

I towel dry Shelby off well, and then keep her in the house till she's dry. It takes probably about 2 hours for her to be completely dry. You could alternatively use a blow dryer on the low setting (keep it away from the dogs ears and eyes) and blow dry Lucy off. She has short hair, right? It probably won't take very long for her to dry.
If the weather is very warm where you are, it shouldn't be a great concern to let her out and about. It'll dry her quicker :)

Definitely make sure you get a shampoo that SAYS it is soap free and detergent free. I use Kenic and the shampoos they offer all smell great and You dilute them really good or you can use the straight.

Have used baby shampoo on cookie, the vet said it was ok, in an effort to help with scratching, otherwise a puppy shampoo from pet retailers, but am looking for something more natural because of her itchy skin!

I only use Earthbath products on my dogs.
For Sheena I use: http://earthbath.com/coatbrightener_pint.html
Light Color Coat Brightener Shampoo
Lavender-scented brilliance enhancer adds extra sparkle to light-colored coats. natural minerals, known as optical brighteners, combine with lavender oil to leave your pet's coat shiny, bright, soft, and smelling naturally fresh.
And for Luca I use: http://earthbath.com/mangotango_pint.html
Mango Tango Shampoo and Conditioner in One
With the irresistible scent of exotic tropical mangoes, this exceptionally mild shampoo adds brilliance and shine while the extra-gentle conditioner softens and detangles.
There are many other types as well. The great thing about Earthbath products is with Sheena being a Service dog I have to bath her every week. Most other brands would dry out her skin and coat with that much bathing. Not Earthbath. She has never had a problem while using this product.

I too have used Fresh n' Clean by Lambert Kay - The oatmeal and baking soda. WONDERFUL sent that lasts for a long time. I bathe my 4 every week and it's never caused any skin problems for them. The only reason I switch was because I was going for something more natural. I still have about 2 bottles each of the Fresh n' Clean, though, that I use on occasion.
I swear, the stuff smells good enough to use on yourself - and I have! The conditioner makes them sooooooo soft and lasts a long time because you dilute it.

I do NOT bath my Shepherds only brush them but I would use a Baby Shampoo with no tears to irritate the eyes. That burns mine I know so it sure must do theres so that makes it safer for the dogs. Long as u rinse well who cares what kind u use. I cannot see a difference in using some on mine expensive or cheap same to me. Maybe I am nuts. who knows.>

I've recently started using a brand called Max & Milly as I saw them at a show earlier on in the year (I posted about a grroming tool I bought from them too at the same show). They have a selection of specially formulated dog shampoos and quite a wide range - for different coat types or colours I presume.
My terrier has senstive skin so I use the mild shampoo and then for the cocker I have used a couple of different shampoos - one that was good for removing scurf and adding shine to the coat and also a shampoo and conditioner combined. All three have been really good and I would recommend to others. Not cheap but they have done the job for me!

I swear by Fresh N Clean, hands down. :)
I really, really, really want to find this one shampoo I used to use in the grooming shop-Down N Dirty, it came as a concentrate, and I LOVED it. I can't find it anywhere. Maybe I'll make a post about it...

Sorry - on the above post - I didn't type the link - www.maxandmilly.co.uk (http://www.maxandmilly.co.uk) - the shampoo I have used (I've been to dig it out of the cupboard!) is the soothing cucumber shampoo for the sensitive skin then the Super Shine Shampoo which was great at removing scurf and stripping out mud and really was good for adding shine and condition.
Some people have also mentioned some blue products - what do these do and what do you use them for?

I also use Earthbath on mine and love it. I use the Mango Tango one and the Oatmeal and Aloe one on them. It is by far my favourite brand.
I also have some Fresh N Clean shampoo and conditioner at home too that I sometimes use, just because I love the way it smells. It does make Tango's skin dry out if I use it too often though, which is why I only use it sometimes.

I have bought shampoo I saw in Your Dog this month - from a company called Max & Milly. Not particularly cheap but I am really really pleased with the results and there's a good range for different jobs; coat types and colours. They also have some nice collars so have invested in a couple of those too. A 'diamante free zone' it says on the website, which works with me!! www.maxandmilly.co.uk (http://www.maxandmilly.co.uk)

Thiis may do okay when you want a quick fix in between using a wet shampoo . I show my dogs & feel they require proper bathing. My dogs are
not stressed by bathing thney are used to it & I have as yet to come accross a dry shampoo which matchnes up to the ones you use with water.

Yes, I agree long haired dogs like yours probably won't get the same results as a full bath, but the NoRinse stuff for my short haired whippets is brilliant, its a liquid that you massage to a soapy lather and just towel off - works for me anyway
