My 4 month old pup loves to bite my feet and ankles, especially when I walk him. I tell him "NO!" and "NO BITE!" and he barks at me and continues to bite. I bop him on the nose and it seems to only encourage him. It's particularly tough when I walk him b/c I end up tripping over his leash and its embarrassing. He also only does this when I walk him but never to my husband. Any advice to get him to stop doing this? Thanks!:)

See if you can encourage him to carry a toy or a ball during walks. If he's carrying a toy in his mouth he can't bite you. Just to be sure, this might work even better if you spray some bitter apple or other taste deterant on your feet/ankles. Make sure he gets lots of toned-down (you don't want to excite him) praise for not biting at you.

Bopping him on the head won't help - it just ups the anti and makes him think there's more of a game going on here.....or could hurt him....
You could try a water pistol - conceal it in your hand, every time he displays unwanted behaviour you give him a squirt. Do not react in any other way - ie don't look at him etc, just squirt and carry on with your walk. It's imortant not to let him see where the spray is coming from. And then when he nehaves himself, praise him like mad.

I agree.

Her thinks you're playing :). Also, do you use a really low voice when you say no? If not, it may sound to him like you're playing.

I personally would practice walking in the houes on a leash. If he nips you, tether him to something safe and continue walking. He learns that if he bites you, you leave. I wouldn't use this anywhere else unless you have a completely fenced in yard to work in; I'd be afraid of something happening to him.

The other thing you could try is to ignore him after you say no. Giving him attention is a form of reward.

I would make him sit and just stand for a minute or two. A jerk on the lead when he is about to bite at the same time a very firm No , then sit ,if he is good and sits then praise him and give a wee Treat. Then a firm heal as you start to walk again, do this every time he goes to bite and he will soon get tired of going nowhare, the tone of your voice when you tell him No is very important. Good Luck, just be firm you must show him you are boss.

Hi there. I know how you feel my puppy is 7mo now and he used to love biting our feet and hanging on our trouser legs. I just ignored it and he has grown out of it, however he still has a go at my mam on a morning, i reckon its because he is so excited to be up though. Good Luck!
P.S your puppy is very cute.
