Hi,
I bought a mini poodle 2 weeks ago (when he was 6.5weeks old) and he was very well behaved, never cries and can go to toilet himself.
But, because i need to work from 9 to 5, so I bought another puppy (girl, at 8 weeks) to accompany him last week. she is a shihtzu X poodle.
However, my first dog doesn't like her and always attacks her. and that new puppy always cries/(yells?) which really upset me.

I am living in an apartment and i am starting that crate training that recommended by many sites/articles, but that doesn't help in short term and I am afraid her noise will affect other tenants.

how to make them friends? and stop that crying behaviour?

Please help me out of this situation, i am very depressed and thinking to sell her.

Cheers

You have 2 pups at less than 10 weeks old and they are attacking each other?
Is that right?
Perfectly normal behaviour :D that's what pups do. they're finding the boundaries out with each other, and every time they yelp, they're letting the other pup know that the bite was too hard. I don't think a 10 week old pup is capable of that much aggression.

The crying behaviour - when does that happen? Just when they are playing?

Crate training is a fantatic tool, it gives the dog somewhere safe to hide out. It will take a week or so to train your pup to it, but after that they should be sorted with it.

I'm more concerned that you have 2 wee pups and are out of the house all day. It's a long time for puppies to go without contact. Can you pop home at your lunch breaks? 2 unwatched pups can make very short work of a fitted kitchen or sofa, I'd hate for you to come home to that!!

thanks for your response, I am really depressed by the way that the new pup is showing...and i don't think they are playing with each other, they stare each other and then pop into a real intense fight....

for the new pup, she cried so loudly that I have never heard or imagined...it is just very upsetting as she hasn't improved her behavious through a few days of crate training....

i am back home during lunch bread every day....

I really think you would benefit from a behaviourist visit. Where do you live?

Ask your vet for some help - they should be able to point you in the right direction. It sounds like you have a series of issues there - and in the nicest possible way if you don't have faith in yourself then you're fighting a losing battle.
In the meantime, get yourself a good book about puppies and have a read.

Where did you get the pups from? Any half decent breeder would come and have a look at the pups behaviour for themselves. Give them a ring and tell them what's going on.

I hope this helps, please keep us posted and let us know how you get on :)

Hmm, the breeders don't sound like they are very responsible (releasing a pup at 6.5 weeks and a shih-tzu X poodle mix). I personally would get in touch with a trainer; I'd be afraid of the breeder(s) giving poor advice.

OTOH, your poodle was taken from her mom and sibling too early (in many states it is illegal to place pups before 8 weeks of age), and she didn't learn the critical stuff, like bite inhibition, from mom and her siblings. Your new pup should be fine, and the screaming is her way of saying ouch. When she screams, remove her to another room and leave the poodle; completely ignoring her.

I doubt your pups are fighting; when dogs play it can sometimes be very intense but it's all in good fun. Does the screaming pup try to run away? Is she afraid of the poodle? If not, I doubt there's anything serious going on; but like MrsRottie said, you may want to contact a behavioralist or a trainer (make sure that the trainer uses Positive Reeinforcement methods w/ pups so young).

You should definitly keep the two of them separated unless supervised. It does take 2 dogs at least 2 weeks to get used to each other and to realize that they are now part of the same pack. Actually my two took much longer, about 4 weeks before we were comfortable to leave them alone together all day. Be patient and monitor them together when you are home and be firm with aggressive behaviour.

Thanks guys,

I have sold the shihtzu X poodle as I don't have enough room and time to separate them all the time and I believe it is more happy and fair to both of me and the pups.
I admit that I didn't do enough research before buying 2 puppies. And I hope to advise/tell others not to raise 2 puppies at the same time unless you have a lot of time.
But now, my remaining pup is doing very well and I am sure he is happier than before.
thank you for your advices.

cheers
