View Full Version : Is eating small animals dangerous?
my dog has never eaten any small animals before today, so i'm not sure if it should be any cause for worry. she ate a small injured bird. can this be dangerous? what if the animal had an infection or some kind of disease - can this be contracted to the dog?
would it make a difference if the animal was dead or alive?

No this will not hurt your dog at all, especuially if your are up to date on the dogs vaccines.
I feed a RAW diet, no problem with my dogs. They actually go out and catch voles and mice and eat them ! :D LOL
Dogs were meant to eat like that so one bird is not likely to hurt your dog at all.

well my papaw owns a farm and his beagles always wonder off ansd sometimes eat small animals around his house theve never gotten anything like life or death situation and no diesises viruses and such ever before but like common sence make sure wat youre dogs fighting isnt anything dangerous or like has rabies or another contasious disease thats deadly as u know and if its only dead animals i doubt the disease could still dwell in it just dont worry but still keep a close watch.:)
A lonnggggg time ago I had a GSD/Chow chow mix. We lived in a 20 acre wooded area where we would hunt, and so did my dog Shadow. He wouldn't eat reagular dog food, so he hunted for himself. At one point he actually became over weight from it. I don't know how that happened, but it did! He would bring us halves of rabbits and once even drug a deer's back leg up to our porch. He was healthy as any dog.

LOL. Yep. It was gross at first, but he eventually disposed of the parts himself, so we left him alone to his business:cool:
