I was wondering if anyone knows some kind of product or something I can do to get my new cat some fresh breath. Mitzi's breath is terrible! It smells like she gets poop. :) She has had bad breath since she got conjunctivitis in her left eye. My guess is when she got the conjunctivitis in her eye she now cleans it, so thats making her breath smell! Help, I can't stand the smell of it anymore! Thanks in advance!!

I suggest having her teeth checked to make sure she doesn't have any tooth or gum problems. What do you feed her?

I'm not familiar with that food ... hmmmm ... will have to do some research.
Does she have any redness at the gumline? Any discolored teeth? Any ulcerations in the mouth (look under the tongue too)?

Not that I see! Everything looks fine to me. Could it be anything else??

I really think this issue needs to be discussed with your vet & warrants a check up & probably some bloodwork.
I don't think there is any connection with her cleaning her eye & her breath. Something isn't right & it could be something you can't see in her mouth or some other health issue that hasn't yet displayed other symptoms.
Cats have varying degrees of breath issues but rarely are they so offensive that you can't stand it without there being an underlying problem. There could be an abscessed tooth that you just can't see or some other type of infection that may or may not be in the mouth at all.
I also don't think diet would cause such an extreme foul odor but I guess it is possible. I'd opt for the vet check & see what is going on here.

All of those structures are connected - drainage from the eyes, the sinuses, the nasal passages, the mouth, and the ears. Bad breath could be caused by a number of things, including infections in any of these structures, or changes in blood chemistry from other problems like renal disease. If your cat has super bad breath, then your cat needs a thorough examination by a vet.

I have to agree ... more great advice by Vagreys! Renal disease is often the cause so a vet check is definitely in order. To be honest, that was my first suspect but I was trying not to be an alarmist & worry you in advance while coaxing you to get your cat to the vet. A simple blood panel will tell you if that's a specific worry & your vet will have good options to stabilize & treat that condition if caught early.
When I said cleaning her eye was not related, I meant that the cleaning & ingesting the "gunk" was not the cause of her bad breath but the eye problem could definitely be related in other ways with an illness related to organ failure.
