Hi there what other reptiles have you got? I have 4 snakes my self plus loads of frogs chams and a beardy did you say your putting your new one in the same viv as your other one, i was advised not to mix them especially different ages and species unless breeding. good luck with finding out what it is :-)70here is Peter my Ball Python
Your new snake sounds like a rainbow boa, you might wanna do a google search with images to see if you can find a snake like yours.
I used to keep reptiles 'til I discovered how great pets rats make. So I found homes for my reptiles with my nephew who's going to be a herpitoligost (sp?)
Congrats on your new scaley buddy!

Pictures would be great :), I love snakes as well. I think they are beautiful creatures.
It's best to do research before you buy an animal like a snake, arthropod, fish, or amphibian. What if you can't keep the snakes together because they require completely different conditions? What if it's a species that will require an large enclosure in a couple of years (and by that, I mean something that should have 3ft X 8ft footprint or larger)? What if one species is a natural predator of the other?
I used to spend a lot of time on a fish forum and I can tell you, when things aren't researched really well, they can turn really ugly (such as a fish killing all other tank inhabitants).

P.S. I don't mean this to sound stand-offish, just informative. I myself have encountered many heartaches because I didn't research... not to mention that the animal suffered from my mistakes.

I totally agree becky, you have to be so carefull especially with babies snakes are agraphobic (AND I CANT SPELL) they have to be kept in places where they can squash up and feel safe. Once you get the hang of exotics their a joy to keep, have to admit most of our animals are my mams (not my louie though he's all mine) but i love them all dearly.
P.S gets some pics up of your new addition i'm dying to see him/her.:)

kelsie you should not keep them together. There are so many reasons not to. You don't know if one will eat the other, or what their care requirements are, or if they are male/female. There's also the possibility of parasites and the like. Is it wildcaught? Where did you get it? It doesn't sound like a rainbow boa to me. These are rainbow boas - http://images.google.ca/images?q=rainbow+boa&hl=en . Though, what you may mean is Rainbow snake. Does it have a rainbowy sheen to it? It could also be a Northern red-bellied snake. Here's a link with some info on them - http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/natsci/herpetology/fl-guide/Storeriaoobscura.htm . What are you feeding them? What do you use for substrate? Heating? Could you get a separate tank for the other? Sorry to be a nag :D
Does anyone with reptiles have msn? I'd really like to chat with ppl with the same interest.

i know one thing 4 sure-its no rainbowa! ive been looking up and i think its a ring-necked snake-actually i do know 4 sure, they look the same. yes, i did catch it.and your not nagging, your just questioning. ALOT. LOL. the snakes get along great! they stay together all the time, and when i pick up there rock thats over the heater thing, theyre all ways together. i think its really kool to have a snake thats always getting along with my other snake. well gotta run!:)
p.s im hoping there male and female.:D
