View Full Version : Need Help Quick with Crying Rescue
Hi!
I just adopt a dog in a shelter. She's a female about 1 year old black labrador (mix). She's being in the shelter for a month but now here she keep crying. Just wondering if it normal or there something wrong. We play with her, we walk here every hours (or if she ask). She doesn't seing to have a problem with food or drink.
Any suggestion?
(she just came back from outside and she's crying...)
THANX ALL!

Hi John welcome to the forums how long have you had her? It will take some time for her to get used to her new enviroment and with you her new owners. Do you have any history on why she was in the rescue? :)
Thank you for answering!
I just got her today (around 10:00 am). And unfortunatly we don't have any information about her. She was found with no ID. She had her first vaccination and that about it...
I tough it was normal since its a new house and she being stuck in a cage for a month. I just hate to hear her crying.
Thank you again!

If you're within the first few days of bringing her home, she is probably just having difficulty adjusting to her new home. I suggest using treats to get her to come to you & when she does, talk to her calmly & give her lots of praise. You might try some longer walks to tire her & see if that helps. A lab mix is likely to need lots of exercise so she might need some running room to wear out.
Can you give us a little more information about your time with her?

Ooops, you answered while I was posting. Since she just got to her new home, I wouldn't worry too much. Just try to calm her & show her lots of love & affection when she's calm. If she seems at all fearful, try to convince her to come to you rather than you going to her.
Do you have any toys for her? Does she enjoy fetching a ball? Try different things to get her mind off her surroundings & help her try to have some fun.
Keep us posted on your progress with her.
I just finish working ( at 6h30 pm) but my girlfriend came to pick me up with her (30 minutes walk). Since them I didn't stop to pet her since.
Now she seeing to be very calm! She's sleeping :)
I'll post a picture soon :) If there anything wrong i'll come here for answers ;)
Thank you againt all! Your great :) THX THX THX!

she sure is,i had a peek at her, awwww bless her
she looks similar to lucy who also has the white stripe to her chest,i think shes crossed with a collie too.
She's still crying but she had a full night of sleep without any problem. She cry when we go for a walk . I very happy that she sleep the whole night on the couch without any problem. Anyway, i'm gonna go later to Mondou (food, toys, bed and stuff for her).
Just want to thank everybody :) It's sure a very nice forum! (great people, great subject, nice thread).

Keep us updated as to how she's doing! Will go take a peek at her pics in the gallery.
We just came back from the petstore to buy her stuff. I'm very happy because she's fine in a car (not nervous or sick or anything). She cried like always (car, outside, inside..) but she was very good in the store. Also, she weight 58 pound (there's a scale in the store:P). I took a oatmeal shampoo (I look in the forum and it's seen to be very appreciate:p). Also got a question. Now she's on ROYAL CANINE (Adult Medium) food and I was wondering if it's any good? I prefer to change now while I only have a small bag (enough to make the change slowy). I bought some WHITE RAWHIDE (any comment...not sure if it's good) because while she's chewing on this she doesn't cry ;)
Anyway:P I'll add some picture later and if you have any idea of what to buy (food for exemple) that I can buy in Canada (Quebec, Montreal) feel free to share :) !
Thank you!

Check that the rawhide doesn't have any artificial things in it, also some dogs get throat problems when eating rawhide.
They don't say the ingredient on it...
Brand: Les accessoirers HUNTER BRAND INC.
White Rawhide
- Digestible
- Reduce Tartar
- Good for Teeth
- Hygienic Packaging
That's all :S Should I stop giving it?

hmmm, I hate it when there are no ingredients listed. I do know that some rawhides are dyed. Also what does 'white' rawhide mean?
Just be aware that rawhide can cause throat issues in dogs.
Hmm... I never realy like those things but she seing to like it... here's a picture of the product ( if it can help..)

I understand it might be dangerous so i'll probably trow them out but do you have any idea of a Very good product for her to chew on for hours (maybe not that much but something that not gonna brake in 2 sec...)
Thx for helping!

I used to buy those but after hearing the dangers, I just "used up" our supply of them & distracted Ozzy when he was making "too much progress" on those bones to take them away. I still have a big bag of the flat-wide rawhide strips (also white) & give them to him now & then. I do make sure I only give them while I'm watching & take them away long before they get to the "risky" stage.
I say, if you keep a close eye on your dog while he's chewing them & take them away before they can be swallowed, there's no real harm & the dog will enjoy them. Good for teeth & gums ... properly supervised.
Ok thank you!
I was planning (thank againts to this site full of nice people helping) to give her one while i'm working so she have something to do... but honestly I probably just don't give her any...I never like those thing for some reason. Exemple, they sell some of those in Dollarama (everything for 1$) so i'm sure the quality is not very good. Anyway...I'm gonna try to find something else tomorrow... spend 200$ today for her but TOTALLY WORTH IT :D.

I would stay away from the cheap ones in places like Dollarama. The cheap ones tend to have harmful chemicals like pesticides and formaldahydes and/or are treated with something to bleach them and make them look white. There are "good" ones out there so unless the label says "no harmful chemicals" I would assume that there ARE harmful chemicals.
Oh ok...
Anyway I took them away. I'll get something later that hard to chew on and good for her health... Any suggestion?
