If I were you I would inform the police and local dog warden, explain what has happened ,but tell them you are willing to keep them with you until the owner is found

I would start by taking out a found ad in your local newpaper, perhaps someone is looking for the dogs. Next put flyers up wherever you can, light standards, bulletin boards in stores etc. I do not know about where you live but here there are radio shows that advertise lost and found.

From there get ahold of a rescue and tell them you at least want to foster the dogs till they can find a new owner for them. Most rescues are happy to have a foster home while they look for a new home for the dogs.

Hope that helps.

Sounds like you are interested in keeping the dogs?? One option would be to contact an adoption facility and find out if they foster dogs...then tell them about the two dogs, and say that you want to foster them and the pups.
It is possible, though unlikely, that they belong to someone. I don't see how someone could lose a pregnant female and her mate...but you never know...so keep posting up the flyers, or place an ad in your local newspaper...give it some time and see if anything turns up.
Other than that, kudos to you for rescuing these dogs :applaud:
Could you post us some pics of them? Perhaps we could help you figure out what kind of breed(s) they are :)

If you have any no-kill animal rescues in your area, they may be willing to help you with expenses & finding homes for parents &/or pups. I'd contact them to see what services they provide & they should have some great advice for you too.

Good luck! I hope all goes well for you. Thank you for taking in these dogs who are definitely in need of your help.

Thousands and thousands of dogs get stolen or go missing every year in the uk, many never get found coz people find them and think, ow how lovely ill keep him/her. It really is your responsibility to contact the dog warden and police in your area, as well as contacting rescues who may know about missing dogs. Go to the 'doglost' website, google it for the address and you will see the scale of the problem, they could be added to the 'found' pages.

The vet can check to see if they are microchipped!!!!

Please just think there may be someone out there who is DESPERATELY looking for their dog, they may not be very near to you as the dogs may have changing hands, so they may no see the posters you put up.

I think you're great for taking them in, and I know you'll do the right thing :)

Hey!

It's very nice of you for taking them and caring alot for them :). Honestly I think you should call the authority to see if anybody lost the dogs. If nobody call after a while( weeks ), take them with you. You're giving them another home and love... and that's very nice and they need it.

I want more info on those 2 dogs :). The puppy and everything else!

EDIT: I don't know about the law or anything where you are but probably if the rescue home and the authority know that you found those dog I think maybe they'll prefer you to keep them with you than bring them a wait in a cage. Maybe they will offer this option to you (keep them with you while they find the owner) Best way to know is call and ask.

Oh my goodness. That's a little cutie!

Awwwwwww, your Akita is the mothering kind too. I had a male Akita years ago (103 pounds) and he was absolutely the most gentle soul & carried my baby kittens back to their mothers when they got too far from the birthing nest.

honeypie, pleeease visit www.doglost.co.uk (http://www.doglost.co.uk) apologises if im not allow to type addresses? please remember that someone may have had those dogs stolen years ago and then the evil people have sold them on and they may have strayed or whatever, you just dont know, you must tell the authoroties, they're not your dogs! If they dont have a home then I'm sure you'll be allowed to keep them, yes they are lucky to have found you but I feel for their real owners! Contacting a rescue home dosn't mean they're gunna rip the dogs off you. If you lost a dog you'd contact a rescue home and pounds woulnd't you, so you need to contact them now to see if their real owners have been looking for them.
