It's a myth!.
It has been proven that it's not true.
If you spay them before the 1st heat, their chance of not getting mammary cancer is close to a 100% while if you wait,it increases with each heat.
As for a male,
Healthwise ,it doesn't change mucn but characterwise,he will be more stable, will stay at home and be calmer. He will also have a tendency to be less conflictual with other males.
I,myself, don't really believe this cos it has more to do with training.
I do believe that all mix breeds should be spay and neutered, fancy breeds like(goldendoodle, labadoodle, puggle and Etc,included....

Okay- having a litter doesn't change what the female is.. Good temperment or bad.
Second of all if its a rough whelp, you are asking for infection in the womb.. If you do not plan on showing- best to spay early. Showing is to " determine breeding stock" so they have to be un spayed...
I found spaying before they would come in a great help. No reason to worry on inflamed uterus so they heal faster, and also- no unexpected pups. with the pet population as it is- best to only breed if it " betters the breed"...

I've read the same thing about cats. Let your young cat have a litter before she's spayed. But I don't think it's a good idea, except like Borzoimom said, it is intended to make the breed better. But a moggie cat like mine, no reason for her to be having kittens. Borzoimom (or anyone else that knows these things), is it true that dogs who have been spayed or neutered are at decreased risk for certain health conditions?
