hi,
so last year Gump, my chihuahua died (R.I.P little dude) and I'm looking for a new one
I noticed chihuahuas are really hard to get in England now... soo I've been considering flying over to the US and bringing one back with me
but somebody told me that my pup will have to go into quarantine for 6 months!! is this true? if it is then how come people like paris hilton don't have to put their dogs in quarantine?

thanks,
Charlotte

Yes it is true. North America has rabies and as such any dog coming from here ( North America ) must be quarantined when going to countries that do not have rabies such as the UK, Australia, New Zealand etc.

As for Paris Hilton, not a clue other then the fact she has BAGS of money  . Are you sure she had Tinkerbell with her when she was in the UK ???

Hi my friend imported a greyhound from USA, he wasn't quarantined here, that was about 2 yrs ago. Do they have to be quarantined in USA for 6 mths before they come here?

what if I can provide a health certificate? 6 mnths is a long time and I'm really worried what that expierience could do to a pup :(

:( i never heard of that. if you come over here to get a dog alls you should need is proof of your dogs shots and stuff like that. i know how you feel some times i think celebs get special attention. before you come over here i would ask the pet shop or vet over there and the airline. im pritty sure the only thing is a proof.

I would look into the quarantine because it can be extremely long

you could always 'settle' for a dog that needs a home from the pound?

you sometimes even find the breed you want (or parts of it)

good luck!

have you tried a chihuahua rescue group near you? I think that there is a group for every breed.

There is a pet passport scheme that is in place in the UK - although I don't know much about it and think it may just cover Europe....
Breed rescue would be a great place to start looking of you want to get a rescue - should bedetails on the internet
