Hugs Lisa, I am so sorry.

I have been there and know the pain you feel. You are in my prayers and my thoughts. Time is the great healer and over time you will still feel pain but it will become less and the memories of him will become more of a comfort.

He is at the bridge waiting for you.

Sorry you have lost your little guy. It seems unbearable now and your will always miss him. But you will get better at dealing with the pain. He had a long life, you must have taken great care of him. He knows how much you loved him. Skunkstripe had a phrase about how your heart will get bigger to allow another pet in, and there will still be room for you to always love your Cowboy. She said it much better, maybe she will post it again.

We have lost 6 dogs over the years. It does not get easier to lose one, but our lives are better for having given homes to each of them.

Hi Lisa,
I'm very sorry to hear about your little Cowboy. :helpinghand: :grouphug:
Sixteen years is a proud age for any dog.

The saying that Ritabooker was referring to was not mine, I read it somewhere and find that it helps with the pain of loss.

"You can never replace the dog in your heart. You can only make your heart a little bigger to make room for another dog".

We are here if you need to grieve.

Sweetie, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I felt the same way when I lost my sweet Gino. I couldn't post on the forums, couldn't eat, couldn't get out of bed. I was so heartsick. Seeing a toy of his, or thinking I heard his tags clink, or not seeing him in his usual spots was awful. The worst would be at night, if I could get any sleep, I would either dream of him or wake up and have to face that he was gone all over again.

Honestly, there wasn't anything anyone could say to me, or anything I could do. I only recently felt my heart smile again, and it was when I rescued another dog.

Cry all you want, and take all the time you need.

Hi Lisa
Sorry to hear about the loss of your wee man. Remember he had 16 woderful years with you its obvious because he would not have lived so long. You loved him and he knew that. Time will heal I'v been there. Honestly the best thing to do is get an other little dog maybe a different breed I know you will never replace him but it really does help I promise. Until you meet again.Take Care.XXXX

Lisa, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss! 16 is a good long life for a dog. The dog we first got our kids, Buster, lived to 16-1/2. He was part of the family. It shows how much you loved yours in your post, it is hard for us, but all we can do is give them a good long life. To lose one is always hard, but I'm happy to hear it is getting easier for you. I lost my first greyhound five years ago, he was my best buddy, and it still hurts, but I smile when I think of him now, he was so special to me. At that time, I said no more dogs, but have taken in three more since then, the first to save another, then the two available siblings. A year ago this week, we had to put down our second grey, he was 14-1/2, hardly any sight left, deaf, pain trying to move around. It was his time. Don't worry about the food, your pup had just reached old age. I fed mine Old Roy too. Then Alpo (recalled), now chicken, and now they are holding chickens for the same reason. We just do the best we can and you fed your dog food you thought was safe, and might have been! Can't second guess, we do the best we can. But you pup had a good long life, so remember that and be happy! Memories can really put a smile on your face:)
