View Full Version : Loving home desperately needed

I desparetely need to re-home a staff/lab cross. He is about 5yrs old, neutered and chipped. He is actually my friend's dog, but while he was out the other evening he went for another dog, and my friend, who is a childminder feels she can no longer keep him as the trust is gone.
We have tried everywhere to try and rehome him. I've even appealed live on local radio, but nothing so far, and the awful alternative if we can't rehome him is to have him put to sleep, which would be dreadful as he is a lovely dog.
I am looking after him at the moment while we try to find him a home, but I already have a dog, two cats and an 8yr old son and really couldn't cope with having another dog as well. He gets on well with my dog incidentally.
Time is running out for Benji and I'd like nothing more than to find him a home with plenty of love with someone who can give him the excercise and care he deserves.
Is there any way you can help?

Thanks. I hope we can re-home him. He really deserves a second chance - he is a lovely dog with so much love to give....

~Have you contacted local rescue organisations? Dogs trust, rspca?

I've tried them all - but they are all full.
I did a google search for animal rescue using your stated area--see if any of the links help:

I'm afraid I've already been through this list, but have had no luck at all. No one seems able to take him. I'm getting so worried that I will never find anyone who wants him.
Thank you so much for your time and effort though. It's very much apprecieated.
It just happened to cross my mind that maybe this dog was destined to be with you. Sometimes they come to us for a reason.
Don't give up yet.
He looks so gorgeous, i hope you can find somewhere he needs a good home.

Oh, he is super cute. Are you sure your friend won't reconsider? Were there extenuating circumstances in the attack? Sometimes one dog will just take a dislike to another :(
Does petfinder.com operate within the UK? I'd help you out but I'm in Canada...

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, I know he'd be fine staying with me, but I really don't want another dog (and nor, I feel do my cats) He is very unlike my dog, in that he is so boisterous, but having said that, very loving. Sadly I know my friend will not have him back either.
Benji has never attacked a dog before, and we don't really know why he did this time. It was a labrador and was totally unprovoked - both dogs were on leads.
Will try dogsey.com and petfinder.com.
I'm not ready to give up yet.

You say you've tried Dogs Trust - its sad but sometimes they are full - Jake had to wait in a home he was unhappy in and not wanted for 3 months to get into dogs trust leeds.
Can't RSPCA help? or at least give you a time line of when they can take the dog?

I wasn't aware the RSPCA/Dogs Trust could offer a timescale. They have just said that they are full, and put us on an emergency list, with no idea of if/when they could take Benji.
Any tips?

Yes you could say that he will be PTS if he hasn't the chance of being rehomed. Its radical I know but there is also a show on TV called 'the underdog' - it features Julian Clarey and dogs from Dogs Trust who are being matched up with a celebrity and then rehomed.
You could try sending the show an email - its a long shot but desperate times.
Ask them how long their emergency list is - which dogs trust is it?

I found this on a forum - its dated 22nd February this year -
I'm looking for a small to medium sized dog any breed, sex or age (not a puppy). I have a fair sized garden and no children. Just me and the cat. I don't work either so I'm in most of the day. I am fairly active and go for long walks most days and want a companion to accompany me. I was brought up with dogs but have not had sole responsibility of a dog before.

I'm not allowed to post the link so i've pm'd it

Dog's Trust just said he was on the emergency list which is run past the 'boss' every day, but every time we phone no dogs have gone out so they can't take any in. My friend is keeping in touch with them so I'm not sure which one it is, but I think it's York.

There isn't one at York - but there is one near Leeds - Amanda Sands is the manageress there. We got Jake from there.
You've also got Dogs Trust Darlington - have you tried them?

Will ring Leeds again tomorrow, and have got number for Darlington so will try them too.

Have just spoken to the Dogs Trust in Leeds again, who were extremely unhelpful. She said they have had dogs on the 'emergency list' since January and I feel it would not be to our benefit to keep phoning!

Oh I'm so sorry Bridget - there must be a forever home somewhere for him. No hope with PDSA etc?
Bridget64

I thought the PDSA just helped with treatment, but it's worth giving them a try.
I spoke to a really nice lady at Blue Cross this morning who has him on her list. I just don't know how long this could take. The RSPCA tell me it could be months. This sounds awful, but I don't think I can keep him for months. I am struggling now, and juggling things to try and keep him.
This is so hard.

Benji has just left with his new mum and dad! They are a lovely couple who he took to straight away. They've had a rescue dog before and are patient and kind - all the ingredients Benji needs.
I have taken a pic but as usual seem unable to post it, so if anyone could help.....
A big thank you to everyone who offered help and advice. Such a happy ending to a sad, sad story. :)
I am gald you found a nice home for him, he was a lovely looking dog.:)

Oh I'm SO PLEASED! So a good ending. Listen, Jake is a rescue dog like so many others on this forum and I tell you that most of them live like Kings! LOL
How did they make contact - ?

It was my brother-in-law's sister and her husband. My b-i-l said they were looking for a dog, showed them his pics and they fell in love with him, so the best bit is that we will still have contact with him! :)
