Name that breed/mix!

My mother recently rescued this puppy from an abusive home.. She was told he is between two and three years old, and is some sort of shepherd but I was wondering if anyone out there knows what breed or mix he is :) (She lives way out in the hills where wolves and coyotes are common, so we aren't even sure if it's all dog haha)

Yes judging by the "greying" of the face, He appears to be more like 5+, but I could be wrong. >o.o<

My mother is certain that he is less than five years old, she got him about a year ago and at that time he was less than two years old, and about half of the weight he is now :) He is a very big dog, probably around three feet tall, if not a little more.. and despite his being a little obese now, has a really muscular build and very large legs and paws.. She said since he started shedding the colours in his face have darkened quite a bit.. but we are sure he is not more than four years old at the absolute most..

I think the grey is part of his colour... not him ageing.... But maybe it is... I am not sure about the breed but he sure is cute!

My gut says akita/shepherd mix.

I also agree, he looks much older. It would also be important for him to lose weight if he's an older dog...

Has a vet checked him out? They can generally give you a good "in the ball park" suggestion on age.

hi when i first saw him i thought akita cross ! and i think he is def nearer 8years then 4years

Yeah, that cross sounds right to me.... but i still think atleast some of the grey is natural and has been there all a long.

He is so cute. My dog has a history of an abusive/neglected past as well. These dogs just want to be loved. I wouldn't know what breed though... I'm not good at those kinds of things :)

If you get his weight we might be able to give you a good guess.
Also if you have any personality traits (like to chase bicyclists, flush birds, whatever) that can be helpful.
