I'm new to this site, not sure of how this all works. I lost my 12yr 8mnth old shar-pei, Hooch. I went away for 2 nights, he went to sleep, in his bed and never woke. My son was with him, I was in a hotel. He was a very lazy, in the background boy. Never pushed himself onto you, always waited to be invited. Loved him very much. Shed many a tear on him over the years. Miss him like i never thought possible. Wish he had waited for me to get back. Wanted to share this. Thank you
Would like to tell you about Hooch. Hooch loved his walks, as long as it wasn't wet or muddy! I've never seen a dog tiptoe until i met Hooch. He was never happier than when he had caught a dead rabbit or mole, moles were his particular favorite. He didn't do running, so what ever he hunted had to be already dead but he always behaved as if he had tracked it for hours. Hooch loved his bed and food. He loved cuddles and hated the bath. He loved the stubbly whiskers on a mans chin, he'd nibble gently with his front teeth. He hated having his toenails clipped. He loved the open fire, would almost climb into it. He hated the rain. He loved to have his bed made fresh everyday, would stand looking at it as if it would make itself, it never did, I did! He hated fireworks. Hooch snored!! resounding, you could hear it through the walls. He loves bacon, he hated tablets, even with bacon wrapped round them. He would sulk on our return from a holiday, would greet you then sit on the stairs and turn away from you, just so you realised he was cross at being left behind. He loved putting his wet chin on your lap after a big drink of water. He loved the skin off of a freshly roasted chicken. He hated the cat getting it first! Infact, HE HATED THE CAT!!!!! He loved car trips, he hated my horse. I could go on but i think you get the picture.I hope this gives you an insite into my faithful friend and helps you to understand why i feel so lost without him, even his snoring. Finally he loved us and we love him.
Sleep well my old friend.

Hello and welcome to the forum. It is great to have you here with us, I just wish it wasn't under such sad circumstances that you found us.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Maybe Hooch was just trying in his own way to spare you some hurt. It sounds like he was much loved and I hope that your many memories will often bring smiles to you.

So sorry to hear about Hooch, there are no words that can help at a time like this, i know cause i recently lost my 12 year old girl, but we are all here for you if you want to talk. Thank you. And very sorry for your loss. In a way I was more fortunate than most. He went to sleep in his bed. He wasn't PTS. I very glad I didn't have to make that choice. I don't know why he left without me. He was always there for me. At the end I wasn't there for him.

I'm sorry you lost your friend. But I think it is really, really important that he died in his sleep, in his bed, in a home where he was loved, and where he will be both missed and remembered. And when you think about it, that's a pretty good life you gave him. The pain does ease. Welcome to DogForum.org.

Yes it is a difficult decision to have to have them pts, but at least I got to say goodbye. Please don't t beat yourself up over this as I am sure Hooch would know how much you wanted to be there with him but in life unfortunately sometimes these things happen , if you read my friends story then you can believe that will meet up with Hooch someday. Meantime he would not want you to be unhappy. Think of all the hapiness he gave you during his lifetime . Know you don't think so right now but in time this will help.

Y'ever think he was waiting for you to step out so you wouldn't have to see him go?

Dogs are smarter than we know, and love us more than we can possibly imagine. I don't think he left without you, I think he probably thought that if he HAD to leave this was the best time.

I mean... You aren't without him, are you? Look in your heart. Yeah...There he is.

Sorry he had to go on ahead of you, sounds like a great friend.
