Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm really enjoying this website.
Did everyone see the story about the coyote that wandered into a Quiznos in downtown Chicago?

Amazing. It should be noted that this feral coyote is far better behaved than my 'domesticated' one. :D

That is amazing! I would not have thought that Chicago has coyotes running around!
On the other hand once I was in Birmingham (UK) walking around at 2AM and saw a fox on the streets. But that was in the middle of the night and this coyote walks into a busy sandwich shop?

I saw that on the news ... too funny! Guess he likes the occasional junk food treat too!

Strange-in all my experiences, I've found that coyotes are very shy and rarely show themselves-much less walk into a restaurant! I wonder if this was a "pet" at one point.

Sad though that he's friendly with humans.. :(

It's been on the news. They fed him cat food at Chicago Animal Care and Control, where he stayed overnight until they took him up to the wildlife center the next day. What baffles me is, where did he start out from? He must have walked for miles to wind up in the Loop. Poor guy.

In one of the clips, it shows one of the Quizno's employees bringing him a sandwich and I immediately stiffened. There's no waaaaaay my coydog could digest that! But it does go on to say that they didn't give it to him...Great advertising for Quizno's though!
And then, when the poor guy is released, he runs straight into a tree! Everyone that knows my Clementine has been emailing me wondering if that's her dad...she's not that graceful either! ;)

I am not surprised at all about a Coyote in a urban centre, it has been happening more frequently in the last few years as their population grows.
I use to live on a Airbase in Northern Alberta and the City there has a real issue with them, they steal peoples dogs and cats for dinner and they have attacked small children. It is only a matter of time before a child is killed by one.
They have actually started to den in towns and cities closer to humans then ever before. I do not have any use for them and dislike them strongly.

I think it's safe to assume that none of use want them in our immediate vicinity (such as our fast food restaurants!), but in my opinion, it's probably more likely that we are moving closer to them, instead of vice-versa. I used to own a home in a brand-new development on the outskirts of Los Angeles, and we could hear them at night, and on occasion would catch them cutting through our backyard as a shortcut. Certainly, in that case, we were in what had always been their territory.
Another problem is people thinking they are being compassionate by feeding them. Bob Barker lives in the hills above me and supposedly he feeds them all the time. Bad idea.
I don't know what the solution is. I just am now vastly curious about them since adopting my pup and suspecting she's at least part coyote.
