Hi new to this dog looking after stuff,

have a nearly twelve week old choc lab. KOOK. (pic on the new members forum). Would like to start introducing a dog meat product into his meals as we feel a complete meal (beta-puppy, what the breeder was feeding) must be very boring all the time? But after searching this site and about 3000 others, thats what it feels like!, i'd just like someone to advise me as to what is best to feed him.

We have come to the conclusion that Pedigree seems to be a bad choice but can't find one that is available readily in England which is not full of rubbish. We just feel that our dog shouldn't be eating "junk" food because it's easy to pick it up from the local supermarket. But we are getting very confused by all the facts and numbers that companies are stating that the food contains?

Hope someone can help and tell what would be best. :) Thanks for taking the time to look.

I know what works for 1 dog won't always work for all, and i'm sorry to offend if everyone on here is feeding P:eek: edigree???

Thanks, Ben.

well i feed my puppy on JWB. and up till she was 6 mts just added a small amount of tinned food to enchance the flavour. All complete feeds have the required minerals. So she now only gets JWB. I was always told any feed bought in the supermarket is crap!. After 30 yrs this is the first time i have feed James Wellbeloved and i must admit i'm impressed!

You could always try the raw food method. or Barf

hi lassie,

thanks. I've just had a look at the JWB site. Am i right in thinking this is a complete/dry meal? We do want to feed him generally on complete but we are looking for an actual meat/wet food to add to this every now and then? just for a bit of variety? once again thanks.

90Hi Ben
I feed my dog Burns and change the variety - e.g. fish or chicken, there's also venison, duck, etc. But what decides it for me is that Burns do have a BUAV approval (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection) and they do not test on animals. I'm also assured that all the animals used in the products are free roaming - no battery or factory farmed animals.
I did feed Jake James Wellbeloved but I think the brand are owned by a company who test on animals so I changed his food as soon as I found out.
Best wishes
